[REQ] Adventuring Parties in CavesTombsRuins?

Post » Sat May 26, 2012 7:18 pm

I'm not sure if this was posted before, sorry if this was a repeated request.

Don't dungeons seem boring to you, lack of life and activity save for the hostile things that are lurking within? You may be the last Dovakiin in Tamriel, but surely you're not the last adventurer either. Aren't there other people sharing the same avarice as you, willing to risk life and limb to scour the depths of caves or plunder ancient dwarven ruins or brave the vicious draugr in barrows, looking to find treasure?

Back in Oblivion, there was a mod that added adventuring parties to all known dungeons in the game, random number of travelers of random classes and skills traveling together looting all containers and killing whatever threatened them. Of course they're not hostile to you unless attacked and you don't get a bounty for killing off the competition, after all there has to be risks of other adventurers trying to loot the place of its valuables before you get your grubby/furry/scaly hands on them! I loved that mod, it added more life to your dungeons. Instead of wandering into your ordinary bandit party or draugr horde or dwemer machinations, you could encounter and assist a traveling party and then dispose of them when they're no longer useful!

I did a bit of searching in the steam workshop and the closest one I could find was traveling parties moving from town from town at random. Way to go in making the mod, but I'm hoping for something more underground which also involves looting containers and braving traps.

Is it possible we can have a mod like this? I'd love a little randomness in the dungeons I explore!

its all in the lore, all other adventurers have been shot to the knee.

jokes aside, love the idea :)

In case anyone is interested in the mod I'm talking about, it was called Martigen's Monster Mod (MMM). Other than having a basic crafting system introduced in Oblivion, he also implemented a huge number of new monsters and improved upon existing ones, and of course added the random adventuring parties.

Not sure if its allowed or not, but I can provide a link directly to the mod on tesnexus if asked.

I'd be interested in this too - just another little touch to make me less the centre of the world. An extension to this would be to add unique loot to a new chest added by the mod and have a race between you and the competition to see who finds it first - finders keepers. If he finds it first, he gets to keep it. That is, unless you feel ever so slightly evil and would prefer to relieve the victor of his gains.

Out of interest, there's already a Skyrim Monster Mod (SMM) but it's much cruder than the original - not by Mart and doesn't add the adventurers. Not particularly lore-friendly either.

Remembering there are repeating traps in Skyrim dungeons compared to what it used to be on Oblivion, that means some dungeons would need some changes. I'm not talking about removing repeating traps, I'm thinking something like this:

- In dungeons with repeating traps, there's a chance of an adventuring party spawning in a camp in a large chamber. Think of tents, campire, and furniture appearing like how the khajiit travelers set up camp near towns.

- In dungeons with single-use traps (ex. tripwires), ordinary adventuring parties exploring the dungeon floor and looting containers and fighting monsters.

I would love to see adventurers in dungeons, less player centric is good.

I love mods that make things less player centric, thats why I have the "adventurers and travelers" mod that puts random adventuring parties wandering the surface of skyrim looking for bandits and hostile animals to kill.

Now if we can add adventurers underground, it would make my game complete and more alive!

Seems to me Skyrim already has what you are talking about, it just needs expanded a little bit. Like there are those random mercenaries walking the roads which say something like "I'm not sure I should tell just anyone" and if you have a high enough persuasion they will mark a cave on your map and then walk off. All one would have to do is tweak this a little bit by:

Give them a follower. So you have like two people in this party.
Instead of them marking your map, they say you can tag along for 1000 gold or something, and then they lead and you follow. Having the player "help" an NPC would be better than always being in charge and them following you.
Depending on the players actions, they might turn on the player or have them meet you at an inn for more work, etc.

It would also be cool if they needed someone of a specific talent. Like picking locks or disarming all the traps for them, or just muscle. Maybe they want you to carry all the loot then just pay them 1000 gold for their cut.

1. Description
This mod adds many new features to skyrim, from hundreds of new NPCS (including travellers on the roads to adventurers in random dungeons to assasins furfilling contracts) plus many more things to make the game more exciting and more immersive for the player.

Downloading and trying out, will edit post on how it turns out.

EDIT: Finally found a dungeon with an adventurer in it. It was a single adventurer, argonian male wearing an almost full suit of orcish armor. I like these modded adventurers; unlike your normal bandits and forsworn, these guys don't go down without a fight. I'll keep this updated, hoping there'll be more than one adventurer.

There is a mod called Adventurers and Travellers which goes some way to address this. I have had a group of them attack one of the bandit camps near Whiterun and you come across them moving along the roads. They engage enemies and sometimes move into ruins etc. Its available on the Nexus. As to SMM I use it and I like the variety it introduces to the game.

Already using Adventurers and Travelers mod, adds more life on the surface of Skyrim and don't delve much into dungeons. :P

I'm also getting SMM just to have more leveled monsters in dungeons.

Hm, this part:
SIM - NPCSUBMITTED
Contains about 10 npcs going about their business, those in this file are ALL player submitted characters and all the credit for these goes to the people who submitted them.
Reminds me of Heroes of cyrodiil for Oblivion, with about 60 or so submitted player characters placed in the world. Would be nice if someone could do such a standalone mod for Skyrim, but with ai routines.

A few more hours of playing SIM and here's my response:

I love the additional random encounters in many different towns from hired assassins and thieves and the one random adventurer in dungeons, makes towns more populated and same with dungeons. However, I still wished there were more adventurers in dungeons besides one single person.
