Ahem... No patch still?

Post » Tue May 15, 2012 8:28 pm

I'm one of the lucky ones who've managed to get the game to run (see my signature) but I've to ask, is there no incoming patch? I find this lethargy odd coming from id Software; it has been weeks already. This isn't a flame post. I just want an assurance that they're gonna fix it so they can finally roll out a DLC (which I WILL buy).

So, any news?

I suspect that we're not going to see the patch until after such a time as the AMD driver bugs have been worked out. What's the point in releasing a patch if it's still not going to work for a lot of people?

Edit - aaah, as suspected: https://twitter.com/#!/id_aa_carmack

we are still waiting for AMD to stabilize their release drivers so we can test our patch against them.

Seriously...I keep refreshing the forum and seeing a new post in the "New Rage PC Update" thread and EVERY TIME it's just another post telling us not to use the latest AMD drivers...thank god I've got nVidia cards... Anyways, I completely stopped playing the game weeks ago since I was thinking a batch would be shortcoming...wish they'd just push it out already, screw AMD...

So it really is AMD's fault? I'm an Nvidia fan but I find that odd.

For me it's pretty obvious, i flip back to nvidia as soon as the new generation vcards are released. So far the ati 5870 still can handle it pretty well, i finished rage so i moved on to 2 other games (skyrim and bf3), but as soon as we have a good driver i will
replay rage.
In bf3 i have crashes also, in multiplayer in non-windowed mode, there are many users experiencing this. Is it the driver or the game? not sure
Skyrim runs like a charm.

BF3 doesn't crash for me, and I have a 5850. Not sure what it could be - try using the newest driver blabla yadda yadda

Shouldn't that read: Simply put open gl drivers svck for ATI at the moment?

In general they svck. NVIDIA's driver goes to the opposite extreme, being too permissive and accepting invalid code (although they have been cleaning up on that recently). For an end-user that's not too bad; if you're developing it means that you probably shouldn't develop on NVIDIA (or at least test heavily on AMD and Intel too) as there is a possibility that your code won't work anywhere else.

It's December already. I've finished the game two times in the interim but I feel for those who cannot play the game. Still nothing?

Steam is downloading a 298 MB file for RAGE right now, methinks it's a patch since I've been running steam all day and this is the first i've seen it DLing anything.

Screenshot? Its is midnight in New Mexico on Friday the 16th and the only update for rage listed in steam is from October 8th. Id - you svck. Not even a mention of the update? or the promised 64bit exe or texture pack - lame. All it takes is a little communication.

I have no clue man, it may have been a false alarm or may not but I did see steam dling a big file for RAGE after having been on all day. I'm not one of those people trying to get attention or people's hopes up by saying something like that without actually seeing it...but the funny thing is, my game still crashes every time I try to enter the wasteland... so patch or not, this game is still royally fubar'd.

Most likely a delay if you had just installed stream & Rage, probably just the 1st patch being installed?
Was this a stream install of Rage or from DVD? There are a couple DLC depending on what version of Rage you payed for.
Could have been those downloading if a stream buy?

It is fairly obvious that id has abandoned the game, which is insulting to those who bought the game and enjoyed it. i have been lucky enough to have the game run great since the day after launch but a patch with more graphics options, news of DLC or ANYTHING would be nice. Hear that id?

Nah I bought the game retail and installed it the day it came out. Haven't messed with it in over two months actually.

No its not. The game works fine. Open gl 3.2 works fine. 360, and ps3 version work fine. Nvidia drivers now work fine. Nividia and ATI both confirmed that the problems were their own drivers. Nividia fixed their drivers in one day. ATI still has not fixed their drivers. Id has to test their second patch with working drivers. The new patch will have bicubic-upsample+detail texture to fix blurry textures.

Tweet to John Carmack from Mathemoto

Mathemoto - "Any news on Rage texture patch update? Its been awfully quiet lately" Nov 17

John Carmack - "we are still waiting for AMD to stabilize their release drivers so we can test our patch against them." Nov 17

This means AMD still has not stabilized their drivers yet. Their is not credible evidence that id abandoned the game. Th ey just happen to be stuck waiting for AMD to get their drivers working.

Look at ids track record. id has always had the most polished and bug free games of any game developer out their. Ati has had a long history of bad open gl drivers. Do people think this suddenly changed with rage?

Here is more bad news for ati.

ATI is running out of memory in the 32 bit drivers and failing ungracefully. Don't use "large texture cache" or multisample. it is deeply frustrating that driver overhead can cause memory problems on a system with >5x the memory of a console.

Also don't give me the bs that Nivida is still having problems.

Also from http://twitter.com/idSoftware on 9th December:
it's still coming and we should have more information soon
If you want to hate on the game then fine, but at least try to get your facts right while doing so please.

If you look at my posts, i do not hate on the game, i love Rage. If anything i'm upset at ids behavior after the launch of Rage which i have every right to be. There has been hardly any news coming from ids mouth since the launch of the game. id could be so kind as to post Carmacks twitter feeds onto the website for us who don't want to look up his twitter every time he posts. Oh and also, they can't place all the blame on ATI for bad drivers, thats silly.

I agree ids behavior after the launch of Rage svcks. They should communicate more on the main web page. That said, it is an issue with drivers. The game runs flawless on Nivida since a day after rage came out. Ati has not fixed the problem.

Nail on the head. There should definitely have been better communication all the way through the fiasco.
