Alchemy has +Damage Destruction . . .

Post » Tue May 15, 2012 3:57 am

This is not another "OMG, Destruction svcks" post, more trying to be constructive on making things work with the game we have for now.

"Potion of Destruction"

Destruction Spells do 20% more Damage.

Picked this up on somewhere (I have no idea where), but if it exists in game. . . I'm sure it exists to create as well, yes?

Umm . . . guys can we make these? Would that help at all with making Destruction a useful tool? I mean Alchemy has all kinds of uses already as it stands. I am NOT saying that fixes the problem necessarily, but I mean with a high Alchemy could you actually give your Destruction Spells the "punch" you need for harder encounters?

Curious, anyone who's tooled around with Alchemy extensively have anything to add to this?

As far as I know, people are aware of that but still complain because they would prefer to enchant equipment with a "destruction deals x% more damage" effect. Since this effect is only available via potions then it's only temporary. That would be fine if you needed the extra damage just for bosses and the like but, at high levels, destruction is so weak that you need more damage pretty much for everything. Under this scenario, you would be forced to accumulate huge amounts of these potions of destruction, which would be quite tedious.
So, in fewer words: the potion of destruction is not good enough. We need permanent boosts to destruction.

Most of the complaints that I see are that Melee/Archery CAN be much more powerful than destruction (Maxing out crafting skills and using them to full potential). So I'd think being able to throw on +destruction spell damage as well as being able to posison your enemy with things like 100% weakness to fire would be good enough. Your average warrior isn't able to do things like 1 shot dragons and such (what a lot of people use as an example of "OMG melee to OP"), unless he maximizes his stats through crafting so why should destruction have to use crafting to its max potential?

Honestly, I was trying to add useful information. I guess it was common knowledge then, I thought it was worth mentioning though. Seems like it'd be something to help in overall effectiveness, but I guess it's not good enough. *shrug*

I haven't seen it mentioned in any of the countless "omg Bethesda nerfed Destruction melee OP" threads that I've bothered to look over. It seems people either just didn't know about it or decided to completely ignore how to improve the thing they've been complaining about.

I has been mentioned, but a potion is a supplement, not a fix. It also requires you to level up alchemy to use viably, which is fine if you're into alchemy; and even then, it is not really practical. But as it stands, destruction cannot be used as a primary skill. It has to be used secondary to another combat skill such as conjuration or archery.

No one said that destruction is useless in every circumstance. The complaint is that it tops out at around 40 (once you have the best spell, and the two damage perks), and that is way to early for ANY skill to top out. No other combat skill caps out like that, which makes destruction second rate.

The journey between 40 and 50 is a long haul, and it seems longer if the skill you've invested so much time and energy in can no longer be improved in any way, all the while the world gets stronger.

To the OP, thanks for bringing this up. I appreciate you're not trying to start an argument. It is relevant information, but it doesn't resolve the complaint. Only Bethesda can do that.

Cheers,
-PW

Yup, I use the fortify destruction potions often, mostly for boss fights and dragons.

The same type of potions exits for 1hand/2hand and archery too btw.
Alchemy is quite well balanced, Its enchanting where mages only get mana based effects that fail to scale.

At the very least, it means the effect exists, and could be made usable for enchanting once the CK comes out. That doesn't help console players though... Only other thing I could see happening officially, is Bethesda including some +Destruction enchanted items in a DLC.

Briarheart, ectoplasm, glowdust. Which will fortify Magicka, fortify destruction, and restore magicka.
