I am wondering about Alduin and why he showed up at Helgen. Did someone send him or was it just happy coincidence? I've done the main quest twice now, but I don't think that this is ever answered. Anyone know?

Well I'm not too sure, what I'm about to say will probably be wrong but anyway, since the Dovahkiin has dragon blood inside him, Alduin may have been able to sense that a fellow dragon was in trouble so he went to investigate, to try and save him but didnt know it was a human. Or he sensed that a dragonborn was emerging and he wanted to stop him before becoming a threat.

All that I said is probably wrong though haha

Helgen is at the foot of the Throat of the World, where he re-emerged. He wanted to make his presence known, and lo and behold, there was a nice military outpost to attack.
