All American Rifle....buggy?

Post » Tue Jan 11, 2011 8:50 pm

Finally found my way through Vault 34.....boy is that place a royal clusterphuck!

Anyhow, I grabbed the All American rifle, that I had been looking so forward to using. What a piece of garbage! The rate of fire is about as fast as a single hot shotgun....and then sometimes it'll speed up. I'm guessing it's bugged or something. Anyone else have problems with this rifle?

Boone's got the All-American and he seems to love it. It's his weapon of choice even when he has the well-repaired Sniper rifle on him and lots of .308 ammo. I'll ask him for you. :)

Sorry...I haven't used it. :D

And yes! on Vault 34. It was tough.

I love the weapon personally, I'm more of a precision strike kind of guy, not so much into the spray and pray technique... however, I've had occasion to panic and go balls to the wall and I have noticed this "bug" you mention. The first couple shots'll be a little slow, but then I can get the rate of fire up pretty good. :gun:

All around, "bug" or not, still a great rifle.

I haven't. I picked it up and test fired it a few times myself - had no problems. Then I gave it to my companion (Raul, sometimes Boone) and they used it all the time without a single problem with it. Even if it's bugged for you it's still a great "companion gun" to hand to whoever you travel with because ammo for it is easy to find, military surplus ammo gives it a damage boost and none of the drawbacks as long as it's your companion shooting off the ammo, and companions are able to shoot the All American (or Marksman Carbines) so fast it's almost like a full-automatic, yet it's still accurate as single-shot rifle. :gun: Might have some problems if you run into enemies with a high Damage Threshold but at the same time, your companion won't be wasting the more expensive ammos on things as weak as radroaches either.

I, too, find that the All American is a *great* companion weapon.

So too is the special version of the minigun. Companions will choose it over the All American.

Maybe I'll try it again. When I used it, I used it on Fiends. I sniped at a couple from a distance. And when a couple of them charged and got close, I tried to hit them with multiple shots in the torso. The gun seemed to jam. Single shots were REALLY slow, and like someone mentioned, after a few shots the gun speeds up. Very strange, and VERY unrealistic.

Never had a single problem with that weapon. Doesn't matter if I fire it slow or fast, each round comes out when it's supposed to. It's by far my favorite weapon in this game.

it doesn't waste ammo if you give it to a companion due ot it not being auto.

Huh, how the heck did you guys manage to get your companions to use other weapons?
They give me the brush off every time I give them a new weapon. It's infuriating.

Honestly which companions are able to use miniguns
The only one I seem to be able to force my minigun on is Veronica and I def don't want her using a minigun because her gun skill just svcks.

@Bobby Gun
When you put weapons on your companions do you also give them the appropriate ammo?

As for the All American its semi-automatic so I think how fast it shoots depends on how fast you click.

Companions will use whatever weapon they have that offers the highest DPS, and that they have ammunition for. Or obviously if it's a melee or hand to hand weapon they don't need ammo. It would be nice if companions would choose weapons intelligently ("Oh hey, this gun is useless against giant radscorpions, but I have a hunting rifle, I'll use that instead") but no. They just go by DPS.

its a good weapon, it deals out a lot of damage, its not a one shot type of weapon really it does take afew shots but it fires pretty fast for me and i use it quite a bit.

Single shot is usually used to refer to guns that you shoot, reload then shoot again, like a single shotgun, or the Gauss Rifle.

The All American is a semi-auto.

exactly, not sure why some people get semi-automatic and single shot confused with each other, they just expect it to be a machine gun, semi automatics are pretty fast and a lot more accurate them full automatic mode, so i'm glad we have semi autmatic rifles that are good now, FO3 didn't have any semi automatics weapons except for like pistols or the energy weapons like the plasma rifle etc so yeah the all american is a good weapon, it takes care of most of the enemies.

Did you repair it?

I've been using it for a bit and it seems fine. It's fully semi automatic so it will fire as quickly as you pull the trigger.

The scope seems to be as powerful as a sniper rifle or varmint rifle so I don't have to lug one of those around as well.

Plus it looks cool.

The only drawback is it has a relitively low DAM so it's not good for armoured targets and for some reason AP 5.56mm ammo is really rare. Vendors only sell three or four rounds. I don't know what that is.

My advice, repair it fully and then try it see if that helps.

Easily my favorite gun besides the Sniper Rifle. I absolutely love this weapon the rate of fire is perfect unlike the stupid Sub Machine Guns rate of fire.

I finally got it last night and haven’t used it in combat yet, but it seems like it’s gonna be a great versatile scouting gun.

Man, I HATED getting it though; Vault 34 is a real ball biter.

I find it really useful for sniping at Cazadors from far away. The stupid bugs move too fast so its way too easy to end up wasting ammo if you are trying to snipe them with something slow like a Sniper Rifle or the Anti-Material rifle. With the All-American you can spam shots in the general direction and you usually hit one of their wings and cripple them.

Might be controller input lag. I can get 2-3 aimed shots out of it per second with no problems. Great in followers hands when shooting cheap surplus ammo, that you can buy 250-1000 rounds at a time, with no drawbacks.

My main weapon. Accurate, reasonably low AP in VATS and scoped for sniping. Load it with AP rounds and it kills most things with one shot :gun:

Anything tougher, like giant radscorps and deathclaws get an AP in the face from the Gobi or a close range headshot with the Ranger Sequoia :fallout:

i've noticed the rate of fire bug big time as well with just about all the semi auto guns

i'll be hammering the trigger as fast as i can, but the gun will usually sputter and kinda erratically shoot at first and then get into a rythm of fast shots

it's REALLY annoying, cause i hate auto bullet hoses

with my first character i thought it was from my agility being low, but my current characters is 8 and still happens constantly

this game is bug central
