So I haven't seen a lock chest for hours now. It seems like none need to be lock picked anymore. I don't know if I have done something wrong or if its a bug. Has anyone else experienced this issue? Display cases still need to be lockpicked to be opened but I have done several quests now where there hasn't been a single chest that needed to be picked.

I was picking locks on lock boxes less than an hour ago.


Maybe you are just finding the type that are not locked anyway.

I've encountered plenty of unlocked chests and doors. And a few locked ones. What amazes me is while I am just level 18 or 19 I think and have not done much about improving this skill, other than actually picking locks, I can open Expert and Master locks without losing too many picks. I like that this game is sensitive to very careful picking by relative noobs in the skill. And I like how when cracking difficult locks I get a skill increase every time. So my lock pick skill is improving fast, just by succeeding with locks that I have no right to crack so early in my skill development. Well done Beths. It's fun when something like this is so well designed.

If someone can point me to a confirmed locked chest that would be great. I can't believe I have yet to run into a locked chest in several hours and it not be some sort of bug.

I have the same issue, doors and traps are still locked but all chests are unlocked.

Not sure if this is actually an issue since I've encountered any number of Novice to Master chests in my travels, but I have traveled a LOT. I'm going to guess it's more related to them (Beth) wanting to make it less tedious for people that don't want to constantly have to pick a lock just to get a little loot, which can be extremely annoying when done too much. In the case of this game and actual locked chests (plus picking perks) you actually do get a bit better loot for harder locks. That doesn't always apply though especially for areas. I unlocked one master door lock and basically found a pack of gum and bag of cheeto inside. Guess they really liked snack food...

I just went into a random home with another unlocked chest...sigh.

I actually enjoyed picking a master lock only to find 8 gold coins inside, thats the risk you take.

Don't get me wrong. I have over 70 hours put in the game so far. This issue has only been taking place the last couple of hours of play. I find it really strange that I have gone on a streak of 20 chests or so that are unlocked. Especially when I dive under water to find a chest with 100g, gems, 5 lockpicks, and some crappy weapon I've forgotten about. Maybe I typed a console command by accident.. =\

I have not touched the console so i doubt thats the problem.

Also my steam is completely offline and my game is not patched.

My ini file is untouched at the moment but I do have texture mods installed. I tried disabling all of them and going back to the under water chest I had mentioned and it was still unlocked. At this point I just need someone to point out some confirmed locked chests so that I can travel there and check it on my game. Maybe a nice Master locked chest.

If you haven't yet, you can go to the thieves' guild training room. There are 5 locked practice chests in there.

Thank you, I have done everything for the Thieves guild but have yet to go into this training room. Hopefully these chests are treated like chests that are found out in the dungeons and caves. If anyone has any other chests to suggest please post.
