All I want in a Elder Scrolls MMO....

Post » Mon May 14, 2012 7:11 pm

A sandbox game. This is most important I would HATE to see this MMO become a themepark MMO as a someone who has been playing MMO's since DaoC and Ultima I would feel well like I was slapped in the face with a spiked bat. Sandbox MMO's are the best because of all the freedom just look at Eve Online or well Ultima and I'll even mention the early days of Star Wars Galaxies (I love SWG) and comeon does anyone expect anything but a sandbox?

Two crafting please don't [censored] it up! Star Wars Galaxies had the best crafting system ever created of any game. There is simply no other crafting system that has matched it. For the love Mehrune please take some ideas from SWG!

Pvp, look at Dark Age of Camelot. DaoC had some of the best pvp I've ever experienced and took real teamwork. Nowadays I go into a battleground in WoW or a Warzone in Old Republic and go off to do the objective myself with enough expertise in DaoC this wasn't gonna happen. I had to plan carefully and as group fill a role. It was great and since this will have 3 factions I would also like to see what Bethesda can accomplish. Guild Wars 2 beta also has some excellent WvWvW and deserves to be looked at.

Those are my big 3 that this MMO must have for me to subscribe. How about you guys?

I for one love the potential behind this but apparently it's not bethesda making it or something ? but it is in hands of TES fans from what i know so it should be in good hands , I do hope the PvP is as you said challenging and requiring actual teamwork because when I played WoW it's just a free for all more or less with like 2 people actually trying to do the objective , I think teamwork being a big part of PvP but not too big to be crippled completely without , if that happens I feel we will have a more mature player base , I have no idea how they are going to integrate the TES world into an mmo completely like what happens when you die etc. from the interview (http://www.gameinformer.com/b/features/archive/2012/05/07/the-challenge-of-elder-scrolls-online-an-interview-with-the-creative-director.aspx) i gathered that it's open world PvP between the three factions but two can team up on the other which means it's not like WoW in the sense , he's from a different faction , your only option is kill or communicate poorly through emoticons ha :D but it does mean no language barrier which will add a diplomatic element to PvP . I do secretly hope they bring in an arena , the same one as oblivion but it's for PvP or PvE challenges posted up like a weekly quest , 3 man quest to survive a mob of trolls and bandits etc in the arena like when you became grand master in oblivion , this has so so much potential to be an unbeleivable mmo that does everything right like letting you pick more than tank/healer/dps which is confirmed , ( confirmed that they are not doing it that is ) and give you a wide range of classes like again , in Oblivion all those pre made classes , there were 15 + if i can remember correctly . From the interview i beleive it to be in good hands and think we have nothing to worry about :)

They are making a sandbox game? Awesome! And here I was thinking it was just another franchise cashing in on the themepark WoW hotkey spamming model! Now I feel like a fool for being so down.

No, it is in the hands of people trying to make money. Or it wouldn't be using the Hero Engine,

I just hope it doesn't hurt the TES series. If it doesn't then I will accept it gladly.

Ummm sorry to tell you but just cause a game is sandbox doesn't mean it isn't a "hotkey spamming model", not by far. Combat style, view point, art style, color scheme NONE of this makes a game a sandbox. Sandbox games can be every bit as 'hotkey spammming' an any themepark, also a game having "left/right click spamming" combat ( you know like TES games) doesn't make its better.....or a sandbox.

also a game having "left/right click spamming" combat ( you know like TES games) doesn't make its better.....or a sandbox.

Actually it does make it better, and those games are more likely to be sandbox-type

No again untrue. Most of the best sandbox games have been point and click or tab target, very few have been real-time combat..

Come on guys, let's actually debate this.

@Boreilx: Most of the BIGGEST sandbox games have been p+c tab targeting etc. But "best" is not a quantifiable statement. For me, SWG is one of the "best" Sandbox games. It had huge subscriber numbers until WoW came out and they ruined themselves with the CU/NGE. It had standard MMO combat but that was at a time when Planetside was the only real-time MMO and it's real-time mechanics were faulty at best. You could almost justify the statement: "real-time combat is technological impossible with current hardware."

Also, Darkfall is one of the "best" sandbox games in my view but A. isn't attached to a massive IP, B. Has a small, inexperienced development team, C. Has little to no funding, D. Has several tiny design flaws that unravel the whole thing. It does however have third and first-person direct-action combat with melee, archery and magic. It also has real-time naval battles unlike ANY other MMO: http://youtu.be/FNO_l1pvDi0

They are actually having to aim and arc their cannon shots to hit people on the shore and you need gunpowder in your inventory to fire a cannon. The ship is also 100% player-controlled and can be stolen by other players.

If many MMO elements we've seen before came together in a perfect storm of vision and ingenuity, we could have a TES MMO worthy of the name.

Exactly what i was saying and proved my point, no matter the timeline as of now the best known sandbox games we have had were point and click or tab target hotbar controls, your use of SWG was a great example of this, we are just recently starting to see real-time combat sandbox mmo's like Darkfall that work very well.

I also agree that Darkfall is the best sandbox pvp mmorpg we have today, i have played it for 3 years and have always seen it as the closest thing to an TES mmo as we would get ( along with Mortal Online, which i played also) and i really wish TESO would have chosen that path rather than the one they chose, but sadly they didn't. I am still very much looking forward to this game and i think it will be a great TES game none the less.
