Allergy to cashews?

Post » Sun Jul 01, 2012 9:19 am

Hey yall,
Today I had a snack of cashews, just a small handful, and after I ate it I immeditaly began to feel sick in my stomach and I felt some sort of pain around my heart. Now normally I do eat healthy, and I am very active so I don't have a strange weight/food related thing, and before today I've never had an issue with eating cashews, but for some reason my body just didn't want to digest it. Do I have an allergy symptoms?
p.s I'm not familier with this because I've never had an allergy before.

Go to an allergy specialist...
Most likely be dead by now if you were allergic.

I would recommend going to your doctor as they are much more likely to give you helpful information than these lovely forum folk.

I would recommend you not eat cashews.

But maybe you should try a few more first. Just to be sure.

Get it checked, however I think it would have been different if you were allergic.
When I found out I was allergic to dandelions I could hardly breathe or see for that matter, eyes got all runny and itchy.
If it is allergy I'd imagine it would have other symptoms than just not wanting to digest it.

Can't know for sure if it's an allergic reaction or not. You should definately check with a doctor if cashews give you serious troubles, so you can find out if you can keep eating them or not.

Yeah causing a bit of chaos, I suppose. It becomes quite a lot of fun when we have different opinions.

I'm pretty sure that nut-based allergies usually result in some kind of breathing difficulty, like throat swelling. Otherwise it probably isn't an allergy.

Nah. I have summer allergies (pollen, grass particles etc.) and my symptoms are sneezing, runny nose and irritated eyes. No real difficulty breathing, though.

Throat swelling (as well as hives and surface rash) tend to be more related to food allergies.

I take it my pollen allregy is quite extraordinary then.

Probably. You must be on the edge of death every spring since your throat is constantly swollen .

Maybe we are, but that's not relevant to this topic.

Why not test it? Get a blood sample and a microscope, grind the cashews, mix it with the blood , and see in the microscope how the cells react.

You're a Xenomorph I bet this is some kind of clever trap. And wouldn't it be easier to see a proffecional?

Only if it were an extreme allergy  (and I know someone who suffers such a reaction to wheat... she spends a lot of time in hospital).

It's still possible that it's an allergy, or at least some form of reaction .

If the effects don't seem to be dangerous, try getting some cashews that are definitely fresh (to eliminate the possibility that you just got some bad nuts), try a similar amount, and see if you have the same problem, then go to a doctor if you do. I suggest leaving this experiment until at least tomorrow, to let your digestive system settle and stuff.
