Just realized a way to power level alteration up to 100.

Find a mob in the wild that is near a rock or ledge. Hop up and agro the mob. Now just stand there and cast oakskin over and over. Since you are in combat you get gains continuously. Since you are in combat your magicka regens slow. But it works.

Mob is the general term for anything that would attack you. It's from the term 'mobile entity' that originated back in the 80s.

Why not just spam Magelight? You don't have to be in combat that way, so your magicka regenerates quickly.

Hmmm simple answer, never have bought that spell and didn't realize it was alteration!

And I've seen it said many times that muffle is the only spell you can spam to master a spell school. Are all those posts wrong and magelight actually works?

Illusion - spam courage spell any target, not considered an attack
Conjuration - summon something then hit it until it agros you gain exp, finish it off and summon again
Smith - iron daggers
Enchant - absorb health iron daggers
Restoration - stand in one of those traps with the moving blades back and forth just keep healing yourself

etc
They are all pretty easy to power level, pick pocket wait until you have two pieces of gear that give you +30% more chance or something
Speech would be the only thing I'd go out of my wait and get a trainer to level up

I just tested it. If you cast Magelight on a target (which can be a friendly NPC - a guard) then you gain experience.

Actually magelight is terrible for gains. At 39 skill it took 3 full mana bars, casting it about 50 times to get half way to 40 skill. But only 3 casts of oakskin got the other half needed to hit 40. Even with the slower regen using oakskin in combat is way faster.

And just to give an idea of speed, I just went from 40 to 50 alteration in 8 minutes.

Monsters do drop aggression at times in this game.

They're completely applicable for creature behavior.

The Restororation/alteration trick does work.
Use Calm for Illusion just cast it on any NPC.
Conjuring just spam Soul Trap on a dead body.

BTW the higher the spell ranking Novice, Apprentice etc the more XP you get to your next ranking it seems but it costs more to cast.

Buy a wardog and spam soultrap on it. It won't aggro.

You can also cast soultrap on any dead creature, over and over. I find telekinesis the best way to level Alteration once you are high enough to buy the spell.

conjuring bound weapons and using them in combat seems to improve both conjuration and the relevant weapon skill at the same time.

You do know there's a speech glitch in Riften, that will take you from 15-100 in no time?

Noone has mentioned a way to powerlevel Destruction. I don't consider summoning powerleveling considering how slow it is.

By the way you don't need a ledge. Any lake with Slaughterfish and all you have to do is stand on the shore once they aggro.

Well you can burn Ralof in the intro dungeon to level up Destruction, but it is quite slow. It took me 3 hours just to get it up to 60. Didn't bother going any higher.

That's what I mean. I'm not aware of any way to actually powerlevel Destruction. Anything that's actually slower than just killing things normally while questing doesn't really qualify in my book.

I found the best way to level alteration was buy the Telekinesis spell and repeatedly use it to bring an item to you (it operates sort of like a half life gravity gun, but without damage from thrown items). It gives credit toward alteration even if you're not in combat, and levels you really quickly (just pulling an item across a largish room can win you a point even at middle levels). It can be a big magicka drain, but it doesn't really matter. Since you can do this while out of combat you can just rest between casts to get your magicka back.
