Alternate starts for the next Tes game

Post » Fri Aug 31, 2012 11:56 am

Hey guys/gals just a little thought but wouldnt it be great for the next tes game to have alternate starts to the game for each specific race?

what i mean is like say if they did this in skyrim they coulda had say imperials/nords start the game like its already done,altmer/bosmer could have been started in a thalmor prison while an orc could've started in an orc stronghold and all these could have had alduin causing destruction to said prison areas providing us a destraction to escape.

i dunno about you lot but this would have made the game have better replaybility for me and also be kinda cool.

what do you lot think? wouldnt this be cool for the next tes game?.

Yeah as an alternative, the mod posted above is great! Say that after the first time of going through the opening scene any subsequent playthroughs would allow you to choose the alternative start.

However it won't happen they need ''1337 EXPLSOIONS CHAOS EYE CANDY'' for future games not thoughtful roleplay options...

you mean morrowind? cause every other tes game has a starter dungeon

Although i'd like a quicker start or an option to skip the majority of the starter dungeon, maybe at the expense of loot or something.

the first few times sure but when you start a new character for the 50th time it drags on and it is boring i dont even start a new character anymore and instead just showcharacterrace on my earliest game save to pick a new race as i cant stand the starting cinematic anymore.

Maybe at the expense of great Role-Playing opportunities ?

I can't play without that mod. It gives the player so many great roleplaying opportunities.

hadvar/ralof says "quick lets either run out the front gate of helgen or take the safer choice of escaping through the jail's hidden cave thing" doesn't really effect any sort of "roleplay" your doing.

A race-based alternate start would be very appealing, but I really doubt they will ever renounce their trademark start.

By the time I found myself on the wagon my character's backstory was done, I wonder what exactly could you add in the two minutes or so before you're given the choice to follow either Ralof or Hadvar.

" Hmm I wonder , should I pick the Light Imperial Armor or the Heavy Armor. "
" I'll let Ralof/Hadvar to fight them off alone , I hate fighting "
" Oh no ! there's a bear up ahead , I wonder , can I take him in one shot ? "

Just know there are TONS of these things.

Umm... the last three TES started the same way, prisoner... can't recall before MW. Just, well, with less/shorter non-interactives. DA:O is the basic premise you're talking about, which was a pretty neat idea BUT... character race and type were FAR more limited. Think about it, 10 playable races versus 3, virtually unlimited combo classes versus, well, three, for a total of 9 possible starts (if all classes were allowed to all races) for DA versus PHEW... STILL a great idea though, but can't be married to race, more likely a "pick your start" with options like "street urchin", "tradesman", "merchant", "farmer", "soldier", "student". That would limit to a reasonable number of starts, combine races, and allow for small bonuses at start while not limiting "classes".

Edit... just wanted to add that, yeah, escaping Helgen for the umpteenth time on replay... gets a little old after a while.

I had an idea for a tes game a while ago..

My suggestion is that the next game be set in 2 provinces... now your all gonna go "Pwopostowous!" and "Your maad!" .. but hear me out.

Eleswyr and Valenwood, if you look at the map, are about the same size toghether as Skyrim, making this a perfect oppurtunity...

Promotionially, Bethesda will be able to say "Now you can travel across 2 full size Provinces! Never before seen in past TES games!" Because its techinally true... except for Arena, but you didnt really 'travel' across them.. and Daggerfall, but you didnt traverse across the WHOLE of those 2 provinces...

Now Lorewise, i suggest that... since the Aldmeri Dominion has taken over Eleswyr and Valenwood are in war with Summerset Isles, Elesywr and Valenwood could set up a treaty, that if Eleswyr helps Valenwood in their struggle against Summerset, then Valenwood help Eleswyr kick the Aldmeri out, in return for these troops that would have to be sent over to Eleswyr, the Khajiit would have to give up and share their possesion of Xylo River which they won in the 5 year war against Valenwood, (i believe Xylo river is the river that borders Eleswyr and Valenwood?) and thus the army rising up against the Dominion would become the Xylo Commonwealth, and now fight for freedom..

Main quest: You could either join the Commonwealth Army in fighting for freedom, or be an inside spy for the Dominion.

I dont know why... but i desperatly want the game to be set in Eleswyr... i was watching some old TES Adventures: Redgaurd videos, and that sort of setting, stepped up a notch would be so fun to play in. I was also looking at the Deserts Of Anequina Mod, and that looks so dull compared to what Eleswyr should be.. i'm imagining Oasis's, with sparkling blue water, and warm delicate sands and clear skies with the glare of the sun in your eye... and palaces, with white marble stone and open walls and pillars, and watery floor decor...and seeing as Valenwood is also a jungly type area which would go with a desert setting nicely.

I want this cause i want to start the game as a young, charismatic, poor pickpocket Khajit...

The best alternative for me is have a Save Point that is just before you leave the tutorial, but one where you can make adjustments to your character in the Chargen screen. Just like they had in Oblivion or the Fallouts. This way I can play the tutorial once (as you need to to get used to the new gameplay) then I can just load up that save, change race and looks and whatever else, then go forward as a new character.

Yes! Dragon Age Origins had this, and it made you want to play each beginning just to check it out! I like it.

One big fat face palm here. Super-duh. Thanks for sparing me the cutscene again. ;)

I have been yearning for multiple starting locations ever since Fallout 2. And to this day, the only way to get them was through mods. It would be nice to be able to start in different locations with different backgrounds, e.g. a scholar from the library stumbling over the myth of the dragonborn as dragons return or being ship wrecked by a dragon attack or something else entirely. I'm not too keen on tying it to race, but some starts may only be available to some races.

To some extent, I understand why the developers go for a singular starting location because:
* Each start must setup the basic premise for the game and point the player to the main quest.
* Each start must have a tutorial to teach the player to play the game.
* Each start may need a lot of scripted events.
* The game must be tested with each starting event.

I'd love official alternative start. Luckily we have a mod for that and I can't play Skyrim without it anymore. Not being boring generic save-the-world hero feels so good!
