The best tip for a vampire is to get your restoration to 70 as soon as possible and get the necromage perk.
It makes all your spells more powerful against undead. And you are undead.
Illusion is also a very useful tool for a vampire.

I'd say scrap the heavy armour. You shouldn't need it if your going to be hurling fireballs at enemies from 30 feet away. Try and stick with 2 or 3 magic schools. Armour will only slow you down and limit your magic so try and find a decent pair of Mage robes as soon as possible.

This is a great choice but be sure to make him a full on mage, meaning use magic for both hands and focus on the magic perk trees to get the most out of your high elf.

The whole armor rating decreases spell effectiveness doesn't exist anymore.

I know that Destruction will be a given, and Restoration, but what should my third school of magicka be in? This will be my first non warrior build so I am a total newb with this

But it's still not easy for a Mage, not without some high level enchanting. Plus if you're a Mage you shouldn't be in the thick of a fight, so your heavy armour would only burden you with slow speed and weak enchantments.

As for the 3rd school, I'd recommend illusion because vampires get a bonus with it.

Basically this, and being an altmer you will have the bonus on illusion, so use it.

The heavy armor is up to you but personally I'd rather uses ebonyflesh + mage armor + necromage as an altmer vampire

Better to go with light armor instead of heavy armor. You can go with both hands magic or you could go with one hand magic and the other sword or shield. I made a (non-vamp) Altmer Spellshield and the shield bash is basically your impact perk. Works very well.

I contacted vampirism at higher levels so that I can survive in daylight. So maybe level 20 + once you put enough points in health.

Try and contract it early enough so you can get used to the mechanics of being a vampire and also vampires can become very difficult at higher levels. Level 5 or 6 should be the most beneficial.

I'd say alteration, the atronach and magic resistance perks can negate the vampire weakness to fire.

That or illusion

Vampires are lords of illusion. Illusion should be automatic for Vampires being that they need it to deceive people from their true nature.

If you want to be a battle mage meaning swords and magic I recommend being a Breton. Breton's can naturally be the most powerful human Vampires.

Yep, breton already has a natural resistance to magic so it'll negate the vampire weakness to fire but if you want to be an altmer to counter your weakness against fire either alteration perks or enchant an article of clothing

So far I like it, I just made it through the tutorial, killed an old lady to steal her shack and I'm exploring a mine right now, I have the mage stone right now to help me level up my magic faster

edit wow I feel like a noob on my other character Ive played 300+ hours and almost maxed everything with all the guilds complete and I just now use Fury for the first time to make 2 bandits fight each other wow!!

Edit- does the vampire transformation alter your appearance at all

Ok so right now my guy is a lvl 6 vampire and Im gonna concentrate on illusion, destruction, restoration and alteration, I'm thinking I might invest into enchanting since I wanna enchant my own gear, what are your guys/girls opinion on this

and I plan on putting the vast majority of my upgrades into magicka and health
