I found this over on the Skyrim forum:

http://forums.guru3d.com/showthread.php?t=354066

I'm curious if it helps anyone having problems with Rage.

Good luck...

AAAAaaaaaaannnnndddd.....SURPRI-I-I-SE...it doesn't work here either! I didn't see that coming

The game appears to be loading, but after a few seconds all hard drive activity stops and the CPU usage drops to 0%. ALT+TAB to desktop and there's that old familiar friend "Rage has stopped working". To get Rage working again I have to put the atioglxx.dll file from the 11.3 preview drivers into the Rage parent directory. Just like I did with 11.10 WHQL.

Good old AMD.

Wow that is really lame.

When Rage first came out I was using a HD 4670 but I had all the problems everyone else was experiencing. I eventually purchaed a GTX 560ti and Rage has been perfect ever since. However, out of curiosity I have been monitoring this forum to see how this whole debacle would pan out for AMD users. Unfortunately it's not improving. It's a shame the new 11.11 drivers are not helping. Especially since someone at AMD tweeted Rage was going to be fixed this release. All I can suggest at this point is try setting your Catalyst Control Panel to defaults and see what happens. The whole thing is such BS. Users should not have to go through so many hoops to get a game running and I feel bad for those who cannot get it to work. :banghead: The communications from Bethesda regarding Rage have been next to nothing and id has been virutally silent. They should be keeping the community up to date with details regarding any progess made on determining a fix. That would at least keep the complaints to a minimum for the time being. Instead their silence has allowed a fecal storm to explode here which does not help any party involved.

I understand not everyone has the money to run out and buy a nvidia card and some clearly don't want give up their AMD cards but it appears to me nvida has their act together when it comes to OpenGL and Rage.

Hello, the only way for me to run RAGE without crashes is to disable Catalyst Control Center:
- patch 1
- Catalyst 11.11 ( http://www2.ati.com/DRIVERS/mobile/11-11_mobility_vista_win7_64_dd_ccc_ocl.exe )
- no config in Base directory, no atioglxx.dll file in RAGE directory, no run parameters
- C:\Users\\AppData\Local\ATI\ACE\Profiles.xml set "CatalystAI" to Disable, set file atribute to Read Only , restart system
- kill process CCC.exe

I'm amazed with problems with this game, I don't racall such a problems with games in last 10 years ...
My config: Notebook HP DV-6030, i5 2410, ATI 6770M, Win7 64bit.
Anyway, on my brother's PC with AMD procesor and ATI 6970, RAGE runs smoothly on Catalyst 11.10 preview 2 .

Good luck

Officially released 11.11 drivers.

We still recommend using the 11.10 Preview Version 2. This release does not have all the fixes that are being put in for RAGE. Once a version is out with the fixes, we'll let you guys know.

this is how rage looks like for me, with the catalyst 11.11 driver.. AGAIN.
the only driver where the game doesn't have any texture problems on my machine, is the 11.10 preview 3, but with that driver the game crashes after 5 minutes of gameplay. it also freezes when quicksaving, so that driver is also a no-go.
i can't really believe, that after more than a month after the game's release, i'm still unable to play this.
and i don't really care who's fault it is.. id software's or AMD's, but should anyone of those companies read this, you are all a bunch of idiots for not fixing this otherwise damn fine game.
my machine's specs are: i5-2500K, 8 GB RAM, HD6970 2GB, Vista SP2 x86 (will switch to 7 x64 eventually, but don't know when).

For me they work but I see now strange artifacts popping up... this looks like I would overclock my graphics card what I don't do. The FPS feel also a bit lower.

I think I'll go back to the OpenGL preview 3 driver for Rage only solution: http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1249144-ati-1110-final-drivers-fix/

Haha wibble wibble

I've had to go back completely to 11.10 WHQL with the atioglxx.dll from preview 3 just to stop the game crashing every time I exit or enter an area.

Playing Rage using an ATI card isn't like playing a computer game, it's like taking part in an interactive Keystone Cops movie

Tis is redicilous! What on earth is going on wiith these AMD driver developers folks ? They mamaged to not fix anything! Why are we even bothering in updating our drivers if it seems it makes things only worse ?
i had 0 ( ZERO ) problems with the preview drivers of 11.10 version 3 ....

i just updated it to 11.11 FPS went from 60 FPS to something like 25 FPS, graphical artifacts everywhere.. My God..... what are they doing over there in their labs ??!!?? If this continues i will never buy a AMD card ever....
Thank goodness the NVIDIA GTX 600 series are comming out in December

sigh...back to the preview drivers 11.10 V3 ....

I'm sorry to admit this but ATI and Radeon do not exist solely for running Rage. I doubt if ATI guys
put their much effort into this helplessly corrupted title, when there are other million-sales titles
which are much easier to repair and optimize.

I've been playing recent big titles such as BF3, MW3 and Skyrim on my 6950 with 11.10 driver,
and all run almost flawlessly with all settings maxed out. In that sense I never think ATI guys are
incompetent morons. They are doing their jobs pretty good IMO.

Considering Rage is so corrupted AND requires unique attention for its OpenGL based engine,
no wonder if ATI guys say "hey, let's forget about Rage for a while and concentrate our effort on
other developer-friendly titles".

Maybe when the dust of holiday big title rush settles, they will hesitantly start working on Rage again?

Call of duty uses an out dated version of open gl. Battlefield 3 uses dx 11.

Compared to preview 2 these drivers are older/worse.

My FPS is about 1/2 on a 5850 and I get the occaisonal glitch with the guns and HUD just like the rage performance drivers. I they fixed that bug in preview 2.

Well according to the post from an admin above, it looks like the fixes for Rage were actully not in the 11.11 release. Hopefully they will be included soon and you guys can get this game finally running on your systems. It's a solid game and I think the graphics are pretty good despite some low res textures. The ending leaves much to be desired but overall it was a fun and entertaining game. My suggestion to make it last is to take your time and complete all the side quests and job board stuff. Play the game on the hardest level (which is not that hard to begin with) and have fun.

Because it's not the only such game?

Second Life players are also experiencing issues with AMD. Minecraft players are also experiencing issues with AMD. Both of these titles are HUGE, yet AMD are lurching from crisis to crisis in permanent firefighting mode, because their OpenGL driver is fundamentally crocked to begin with.

I guess I am the odd man out here, but the 11.11 drivers worked for me. All prior drivers and updates the game was almost unplayable. I adjusted the graphics settings uncountable times with no success, they are all on default settings now in the Catalyst Control Center. No popping, stuttering, graphics are great now. It almost seems like pure luck judging by all the members who stated the new drivers did nothing or made matters worse, I can take no credit for anything I did except for updating the AMD drivers. So far game play with version 11.11 has been for 5 hours with no problems.

You are right that AMD are more interested in keeping compatibility with titles that are leading the sales charts. You are a potted plant for thinking that this excuses AMD for not supporting RAGE in new driver releases. AMD have not shown integrity in this matter.

Still, I have to say that I'm very happy with the RAGE performance I get from my Radeon 6950 and the 11.10 preview 2 drivers.
