AMD Radeon HD 6950 Frame Rates

Post » Sat Jul 03, 2010 11:54 am

I love the game so far but I feel something is wrong, from what iv'e been reading people with high end single card setups and high end CPUs are getting roughly 45-50fps.

I'm averaging about 30 fps on all settings (that's the strange part bumping it up to extreme only drops the framerate by around 3-5 fps) very rarely jumping over 35. It feels like my machine should be able to handle this game better. here are my specs.

AMD Phenom II x4 955 OC 3.8Ghz
4 gb DDR2 1066 RAM
Diamond AMD Radeon HD 6950 2gb GDDR5
600w PSU
1920x1080

What kind of frame rates are you guys getting with similar setups?

I'm getting the 40-50fps range also. It could be your ram speed.

hmm I know my RAM is a bit outdated but it seems strange that memory speed would cause that much of a bottleneck.

1. Update your GPU drivers
2. Check for any background process that maybe 'locking' the CPU. For example, the gigabyte (or any other vendor) software utilities like MOM.exe and CPU software are a pain in the ass
3. Defrag your HDD
4. Your rig should give an output of more than 50 FPS
5. RAM cannot be a problem cuz I ran Crysis 2 demo on a 2GB DDR 2 RAM with ATI 5770 and got 20-35 sometimes 38 FPS in hardcoe setting and 1920x1080 res

Now I bought XFX Radeon 6850 for Crysis 2, looks like I have to wait for 2 more goddamn days to play... Too bad there is no **** preload.

Maybe PSU strain? Make sure your PSU has enough amperage to sustain that hardware at full load, watts are almost meaningless.

Its either old memory or a straining power supply. The latter problem is dangerious so I would verify that real quick that its enough amps.

after updating and defragmenting I get about 38-45 some maps and some parts in single play still hang around 35 though

Ok now i'm starting to get angry. I brought my old GTS250 into work and plugged it into my work machine (E6500 + 2gb DDR2 800) and I get better frame rates than my gaming rig! How is this even possible!?!?! My gaming rig gets 38-45fps my work machine with the gts250 gets 45-55.
