Id and Carrmack must believe thier own hype

First off my specs are:
Phenom IIX4 965
Amd 5750
4Gb 1600 Pc3
Not the best but not the worst. Have been playing fps games since dos days. Preordered on steam so I could play on day one. Was using AMD's 11.8 drivers when game came out. Game ran but had all the usual problems, ctd, missing textures, corrupted textures, etc. Still liked the game. Typical Id game. Go down this corridor get red key. Go down this corridor get blue key.
After many hours of trying different drivers, driver settings, creating cache folders, config files, etc. had the game running good. Not great but good. Now today steam updates with a patch that any two year old could have done and now the graphic corruption and missing graphics are worse than ever.
Tryed 11.8, 11.6, 11.10p1, and 11.10p2 drivers. 4 different config files. All different settings in cat control. Nothing helps. In fact the 11.10p2 drivers show no texture at all.
I have heard people complaining about textures, well when I had the game running I saw the textures and I must say that if you texture a cliff to look fantastic then because of hardware constrants the fire alarm and the crate and the pipe must look bad. Granted most companies go for a middle of the road approach where everything looks as sharp and crisp as possible.
Yes Id is largly to blame. Thier much touted open world is just large corridors. Yes the game was designed for consoles but that does not excuse this from being the WORST console port of all time. As far as video options go even including the new ones added by the patch there were more options for most dos games. If you are not going to bother to do a decent port don't do it at all. No matter who you are at least spend the time to do Q and A on different computers with real world drivers. Don't just shove it out the door and hope someone will fix it for you or hope fans will wait through five or six patches.
Looks like for now I have an expensive doorstop. Perhaps I will revisit this title in a year or so after the numerous patches it will take to make this a solid running game.

I agree with you man, I got the game yesterday, waited for the about 12 hour load time, finally was able to try it out at about 3 in the morning, and found out that the entire thing runs like [censored]. I can't really talk about the game itself though, cause for me its so bad that it takes 10-20 minutes just for the game to get done with the cryogenic pod opening. I've tried various things posted in forums to help, downloaded the nvidia update multiple times due to steam telling me I should upgrade, which even after doing that multiple times it still says its not up to date, and nothing has worked, still laggy as ever. I should have probably read up on the damn game first before wasting 60 dollars on a [censored] game that won't run for about half of gamers on PC just because the game designers decided that consoles were more important and should recieve all the attention, and just pretty much spend less then a tenth of the time working on the PC version.

Maxdeath my boy you hit it dead on. i may not know a lot about computer programing and config files, but I know games, and I'm an old fella thats typed .exe many times to start my fun, but this is just too much. I'm not a dude that refuses to play a console, I've got a ps3 like everyone else, but when id releases a game, its time to chuck that kiddies controller away and do it right, lol, no sir. I equate this game right now to dark void, and thats a low standard. Like you I've tried everything, and I can't even get the words project eden to load after the patch. I convinced so many people to buy this game because I was so excited for it I think I made id about 1000 bucks myself, of course, they all play consoles, so guess whos the only one not having fun, lol.

they dont believe thier hype..they know what a mess it was on release, they know the furor that follows, and they also know the severe kickback if enough people get refunds.
so if you want this to be a milestone in developer vs buyer stitching up,then get a refund.

if you are sick of these beta phase games being sold as full releases, then get the refund...watch how fast they stop ripping us off and have to return to the old days of developer pride and buyer trust.

looks like i will have to add 2 months to the release date of Skyrim, just to take into account this practice of shoddy development and spurious release condition.

I thought this game was going to be something new when I bought it, from watching G4 and Carmack interviews. Before I even encountered a single problem I thought the intro was god awful, and the rest of the game simply reminded me of Doom3 and Quake 4 with a borderland theme. Oh and for those who haven't seen the ending, your in for a real treat. They just don't make stories like they used to...

I duno about you but I'm actually enjoying the game, even if it is rather corridor-driven, I still actually really enjoy the scenery and the atmosphere. (admittedly once I actually got the game running on a playable level).

After 11.10v2
http://support.amd.com/us/kbarticles/Pages/GPU122AMDCat1110PreDriverV2.aspx

And after the patch...

The game honestly works flawlessly at this point aside from not being able to use fraps. I haven't had any technical problems so far after that update. Kind of lame that I had to use the developers console to change my FoV to 95. But at least its playable.

I agree, they messed up big time. But I'm running the game without issue right now. The game isn't bad at all in my opinion either. It is definitely more linear than the advertisemants suggested. Nothing like fallout or borderlands. But still not a bad game. I am a little disappointed in its linearity. However, I do like when you re-visit previous locations they are slightly changed. And the visuals really aren't that bad... but they definitely are still lacking texture....

What I played of the game before the so called patch was good. Not an open world like Fallout 3 or even Farcry but still a good game. My complaint is that the game played worse " straight out of the box" than any of the 200 + games I have. This includes dos games. Then they proceed to " patch" the game with a few lousy video options which made the game completely unplayable for me and others.
If you check the recommended system specs they do not say "playable only with divers not available to the general public" nor do they state "may not play on most systems that met or exceed the recommended system specs". Nor do they state" may only play properly after creating cache files and configuration files".
I am to say the least incenct with the fact that the game is a lousy port to pc and the fact that I have never had a game in all the years I have spent gaming that I could not run. Yes I have come across many bugs in games that needed patched. Yes I have needed to make minor adjustments. Yes I have seen patches that introduced more bugs then they fixed. BUT I have never seen a game released with such low regard for the gamers that it was intended for. Even most games I would consider "bargain bin" are able to work from the start.
Then Id has the nerve to blame the video card makers and charge $60.00 on top of that.
I used to spend many hours on forums just like this helping other gamers to get games to run and I must say I have never seen a game run this bad.
