I would like to use this one which was created for forums (245x400 pixels) but it says the file size is too big here. Is it possible to shrink the file size to fit on this site or would I need to shorten the animation or something?

I don't even know where to begin to edit this GIF so if someone knows of a site that I can do so or is feeling bored and generous that would like to edit it for me, I would appreciate it. I figure if I knew of a way to shorten the clip so it only shows him sweeping his beard aside and cut out the cam panning back to show him walk away then that should be a small enough file size.

Any help at all is greatly appreciated.

GIF files need to be 90x90 or 120x90 so you can use them as avatars if I remember correctly.

Extract frames... resize each frame then remake gif.

There are two limits: file size and resolution. If a GIF is a higher resolution, it will take but will be resized and the animation is lost. If the file is too large, it won't take at all any you need to reduce it.

If you have http://www.gimp.org/ then you can rescale it and then save it as an animation, easy as that.

I use http://www.online-image-editor.com/ for all the the gif/image avatar needs, has not let me down once!

GIFs that do not loop make bad avatars IMO. Too jarring.
