Is it me.. or animations are Terrible? :(

We didn't see a release video... release date is 4-4-14 not 12-11-13. What we saw today was a PvP trailer.

i have seen lots of talk about the animations but to me they are not that bad. i am also sure they will be improved before release. lets be honest though this would not be a real TES game if it had great animations

Some idle animations last a little over 1 second before they repeat, i don't like that, i hoped they would have used and recorded real human models and not made only in editing software.

Also in combat everyone looks like they have a hunched back to me and a little too exagerated, to much forward leaning, etc, yes in a cartonish mmo these would be very easily overlooked but not with these graphics, if faces don't hit the uncanny valley, the animations sure do.

/facepalm

why would they make a video using mediocre animations if they could make one with better animations? because if that's what they did, the guy in the marketing department that approved this video should be fired.

There must be a price to pay when someone wants 200 players in same action - just nobody nobody can have it without some degradation.

There is one animation simplification - characters seen from far, but I guess the choice is not to have such big battles.

But beside that I really could not see big problem - except all scenes were very short so I could not catch animations exactly.

Release at 4.4.14

And like the Devs have said, they improve all the stuff nonstop, animations have been improved and i am 100% sure they will improve them even more.

Tons of time left.

Nice to see how well the game works even when release is way off.

Because "release trailer" isn't what this is? Its a video showing off some footage from beta. It is what it is. Just because they announced the release date at the same time doesn't mean [censored]. People [censored] they don't show enough gameplay footage. So they show gameplay footage and then get berated for not optimizing the graphics and making a masterpiece of a video for it.

I see why most game companies stopped giving a damn about their players over the last few years. Gamers are the worst lot around.

I could care less about the animations. Im more concerned about the gameplay, depth of content, realism and immersiveness. Animations are way way way low on the list, and pretty much unimportant to the games possible success.

if you were a chef interviewing for a job, would you burn your potential bosses food but tell them "it's ok, if I get the job, I won't burn it."?

The animations are as good as they're going to get when you want 200 players on screen. I'd rather they went for a 'lot' less players and much better quality animations simply because I think 200 player zergs are over rated garbage that bores me to tears.

It's a no-win situation for game developers (especially mmo developers) - they are "damned if they do and damned if they don't".

i am pretty sure that we get smoother animations when there is less people around (at least if i was a coder for this game i would do it like that).

yea pretty much this, the masses of players (wow cry babies) are the worst. PvP elitist r bad also, but there is good apples there who want to use their experience to make games better. Some random WoW cry babies in ESO beta makes me sad, if they have the same opinions that they had in WoW general forums.. lol

Even so, you hit the nail with that comment.

+1 to you Sir.

I'm not sure if this isnt people looking for a JRPG feel to the game because they are so prevalent these days that is what many people are accustom to now. It always stands out to me having played mostly western based rpgs on the pc for so long.. I don't see anything out of place with ESO and I am just pondering the idea that there is a difference between the appearance, movement and feel of these two streams of games.

That you are seeing the animation from a video can account for the "skipped" frames.

this is a flawed anology. most people understand that games are developed over a long period of time and the polish comes at the end. they also know that when we see a video its from gameplay that is already out of date. they put more effort into these videos than i feel they should because they need to be careful of what they show.

Depends, is the chef still in culinary school? Because that's what I would attribute beta to in your anology. Its still in training. Its not a full-fledged chef yet.

Cut it some slack.

You know, Zenimax can't win, no matter what they do.

A lot of people were complaining that Zenimax wasn't showing us anything. Even though it was pointed out that the game is unfinished, in beta, and might not have every mechanic in place and functioning. People still wanted to see the game.

Zenimax releases a "state of the current beta build" gameplay video.

OMG WHY DID YOU SHOW THIS GARBAGE?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?

No one will be able to say that they released a misleading trailer, there was cgi/cinematic cut scene stuff, or any effort to LIE TO THE POTENTIAL PLAYERS. Of course, at some point, I'm sure someone will manage to find something more to rant about.

Ahaha, I'm with you on the animations in ESO are fine.

It's just funny how divergent our opinions are on Dark Souls, because after playing it, it soon became my favorite game of all time, and I love almost everything about it. I bought a second tv/ xbox/ copy of the game so I could participate in Jolly co-operation! And have no buyer's remorse. I only wish there was more, because I can only replay it so many times (TES has WAYYY better replay value)

I thought it had one of the most immersive worlds, like an unyielding dedication to the surreal in every aspect of the level design, I found it fantastic! I picture it as a Soul's romp through hell.

On Topic: Animations are totally fine in ESO, and considerably better than any MMO I have played. Granted I haven't played like Rift, Tera, or a lot of others, but really the first person animations look incredible, and those are the main ones I care about.

agreed. some people will never be happy. then again some people just wait for new info to bash a game more. overall though this is why games have an NDA. people as a whole just dont understand a game is not finished and it will be improved on. ignorance at its finest

I think the animations are fine. could they be better? sure. I just don't think the people saying "they will be ok when it launches." are doing any good. now is the time to give developers feedback so they can make a decision. it could be that the animations they have in a future build are better. but maybe they will look at this thread and push themselves to make them better if they aren't. why settle for less than your best effort?
