Annoying archery issues

Post » Tue Jun 12, 2012 8:28 pm

Beyond these issues, I still have problems with rocks and fences and just everyday things having invisible edges around them, meaning that my arrows get caught in what looks like midair or bounce off, causing me to get detected. this has been a problem with Bethesda's work since Oblivion for me. This could really use fixing.

I've actually had this happen several time to me but I never figured out what was going on. I just thought that for some reason guys sitting in chairs are harder to hit for some weird reason.

I really don't know what you guys are talking about, I've never seen this atuo-aim and my current playthrough is primarily an archer.

1. I wasn't denying it's existence, I was just saying I haven't witnessed it myself.
2. I didn't see any evidence of it in the first link, but that's not to say it's not here.
3. Yeah, can't miss it there.
4. Both of those videos are done on PC which just adds weight to the possibilty that this is a PC only issue, which would explain why I haven't witnessed it

I am going through the game for my first time playing as an archer and I haven't noticed this autocorrect feature. It may be there but it doesn't seems to get in the way.

Auto-aim in Skyrim is pretty noticeable, compared to Oblivion. But not quite as bad as the "portal funneling" that happened in Portal 2, compared to Portal.

Um, actually, it will correct your shot if you miss by a FOOT, not just an inch... but if that help from the autoaimer doesn't bother you, then it's not an issue to you

For those of us who are insulted by such kindergarten training wheels tomfoolery, and like to know that a successful hit is all our doing and not Bethesda frequently patting us on the head and handing out golden self-esteem stars to the incompetent, it can luckily be turned off.

Kindergarten training wheels tomfoolery? I'm still waiting for proof that it's not just a PC issue. In those videos all you saw was curving arrows, which can be done. It's already been mentioned that it can be done manually on a console. In the second video, it looked more like a hitbox issue than an actual archery problem.

And as far as I'm concerned, I'm still waiting for any proof from you that it doesn't exist. I've seen it on youtube, I've experienced it myself over hundreds of hours of archery play, I've observed it myself in personal testing, and plenty of people have posted the .ini tweaks that eliminate or lessen it. And the mod that removes it, as well. I think you either aren't very observant or just choose not to see it. Probably because your aim isn't very good, and you need the help  (jest kiddin! unless it's true, in which case... hah!) At any rate, it's been proven plenty well enough for my satisfaction, that it definitely exists.

Go back and read my second comment. I clearly said that I don't doubt its existence, and I'm wondering if it's just a PC issue.

Sorry, don't own any consoles, so can't speak for their behaviors.

I can't say I've noticed it much, but most of my shots are either at such a long distance that it's hard to tell if I'm off (unless it misses) or are so close that it's virtually impossible to miss. I have no doubt that it's there due to the global magnetism variable, which I imagine was implemented to make NPC shots more viable. It's pretty difficult to dodge enemy fire compared to Oblivion, but still not impossible. I'm curious to know how much less dangerous hostile NPC fire is when disabling this feature.

By far the most frustrating archery issue for me is the psychic-dodge problem. It makes no sense that I get off a sneak shot from 100 meters while hiding in absolute darkness, but somehow every other NPC, while being completely unaware of where I am, can predict precisely when and where the next arrow with fly. It really pisses me off.

Archery in Skyrim is still good but I actually enjoyed Oblivion's archery more. Long range shots in Skyrim are just frustrating, arrows seem to have such a short range. Whats the point in the eagle eye perk (which allows you to zoom in) when arrows seem to dissapear at a certain range.
Also the weird speed of light last minute dodge out of the arrows path.

I tested this on the 360 in pretty much the same way it was tested in the video and it does exist. I never noticed it before because I'm typically aiming at my target not off to one side. Also I don't see how this would effect leading a moving target which was one of the OP's complaints. If I get slightly outside a specific hot box there is no auto aim. This area is not far outside the actual outline of the enemy. Any time I've had to lead someone to hit them I was aiming well outside this area. For example when a deer is running I typically have to lead them by several feet up close or even several yards if they are further away. This is well outside of any auto aim box.
