Annoying Leveling Bug

Post » Sun May 20, 2012 2:45 am

Ive just noticed that my Nord, using the warrior stone, is not leveling heavy armor, block and even archery at same level as one handed. For example, if i go up a level in One handed, it significantly raises my overall level meter. If i go up in heavy armor or archery or block, it moves up just a fraction. Trying to confirm if this is a possible active effect/warrior stone bug or of a different nature

Depends on the level of the skill and I believe your level, if you arent very high but your level is, I dont think that it will increase all that much (least in my experience)

To be more specific, my One Handed is about 27. Heavy Armor is 18, block is about 24. (Just starting new character). As i increase each skill, gains in heavy armor and basically everything else except One Handed only brings the leveling meter up a small fraction. When one handed increases, meter goes up about a quarter

Not a bug. Most annoying thing on this forum is people automatically assume "bug" due to their ignorance.

Tip: Ask question first to become better informed, it not working as stated then feel free to call it a bug, but doing so prematurely just shows your ignorance.

It's not a bug.

It's not like Oblivion where skill have to raise 10 times.

How much the level meter raises goes by what level you are as well as what level the skill is when raised.

There is a better explanation here

Thanks for the helpful response. Its as easy as that. And Bob, take a valium or something. No use insulting people on these forums.

Heavy Armor - Light Armor: both only go up with being hit by things, easiest way to level it up is find a couple wolves and just let them bite you for a long while. drinking a accational potion or casting healing on yourself.

Block - same result, doesn't level unless your using block / shield bash. Again, wolves can help you level this one without killing yourself off fast or using up all your potions. get your back to a wall / cliff however before trying block with wolves, if there's two one will circle around behind you when your blocking.

Two-Handed - One Handed: these both level pretty fast as you use it more often, you make more hits then your hit, and its increases.

All Skills: The higher the skill the more times it takes using it to increase its level, just like earning XP to go up the next level. They also seem to level up at different rates depending on the race of the character. I.E. Nords seem to level up smithing faster then Dark Elves.

The problem is the forums are littered with "Bug Bug Bug" when people just don't know how the system works. So when there are many legitimate bugs that people need to watch out for it is not helpful on the forum when it is full of posts with people assuming a bug without gathering the appropriate information before hand. Then it becomes harder to tell what is real or not.

so next time, would it not be hard if you just would have said. "I noticed something with the leveling, is this a bug or can someone explain how it works?" Wouldn't that have been much better?

No offense to drunken knight, but i dont understand what he said.

Basically like this:

Each skill has a meter that levels as its used.
Your level has a meter that goes up when your skills level up.

As your level rises so does the requirements to level (meaning it will require more skill level ups to go up a level). As your level goes up, the amount you get for skill levels that dont level often will move it less and less.

For instance my level is 47, when I level say alchemy (37) it will impact my level meter much less than say pickpocket (97) or light armor/1H/archery (all in their 40s). I know this is explained in the link but useful for those that dont want to click links.
