Another Necromancy Glitch

Post » Sun Jun 17, 2012 7:01 am

Hey,

This is the second time I ran into a glitch with necromancy. The first time, it was related to the Deep Frost perk preventing my thralls from moving or fighting back.

Now I don't know why my necromantic spells fail to raise dead bodies. I kill someone and casting raise dead spell fails with no reason. Even Dread Zombie spell fails on a fallen wolf! Sometimes it works, though. Sounds like an irritating bug but i didn't have this problem before leveling up.

The changes are the Dark Souls and the Magic Resistance perk upgraded to level 2. Are these perks related to my problem?

High leveled NPCs sometimes require high leveled spells, and Dread Zombie doesn't work on creatures, only NPCs. Not sure about the perks though...

Thanks for your reply but as I said I tried it on a wolf (not a high-level NPC and not even an ice wolf). And i tried all the necromancy spells such as Revenant, Raise Dead or Dread Zombie.

Ah, then that is a glitch. I've never heard of it, and I don't see it on any wikis. I don't know what you can do. The perks shouldn't harm anything. Deep Frost, I know, can bug things out sometimes.

I heard somewhere that no spells will work on an enemy who has respawned... or something...

This is certainly a bug of some sort. I.e. you attempt to raise a foe that's too high-level for the spell you're using and you get the "X is too strong for Revenent" for example. However, when this bug occurs you get NO message at all, yet the fallen foe should be easily resurrected.

Mr Moonlight might be on to something as this didn't start happening to me until I'd played for some time, so possibly it is something strange about re-spawned foes. However it certainly doesn't happen all the time.

Have you read my post dear Scrub?

Do you mean that i can't raise that wolf because i killed and raised him before and now that the wolf is respawned after several in-game days, it can't be raised?!

I'm sure it's nothing related to the level of spell or NPC. I'm currently using the Revenant spell and it worked before on any kind of animal or person with the suited level. However, now the same spell on same creatures does nothing and shows no message.

Although it seems that what Mr Moonlight said is the main reason of this annoying problem but I raised a bandit near Falkreath (on the bridge to the south of the town) even though I killed him once before but in the same location, there was a brown bear that failed to raise!!!

It could be to do with any resist magic affects you might have, i know it can stop you summoning Atronachs but i'm not sure about raising the dead

Isn't that the absorption bug? I'm pretty sure resist has no impact on ability to summon

Correct. Magic Absorption, such as from the Atronach Stone, will screw with summon effects and the Shadow Warrior perk. Wouldn't be surprised if that included necromancy. Magic Absorption is a distinct effect which grants a percent chance to completely negate a spell and regain magicka equal to the base cost of the spell; magic resist is a flat percent multiplier that reduces hostile magic effects of all types, but doesn't outright stop them.

Yea the Absorbtion bug -couldn't remember if it was resist or absorb- i know that prior to patch 1.6 it had the chance to "Absorb" anything you tried to summon, but i've not tried since the patch, and i believe raising dead effects are applied to the corpse rather than yourself like the Atronachs/Dremora are.
