Any Amnesia fans around here?

http://www.nextfrictionalgame.com/ is a little something for all you Amnesia fans.

For those who don't know, http://www.amnesiagame.com/#main is a first-person survival horror game. It's considered by some to be the scariest game ever made.

This is one of my favourite games of all time. It made me scream and cry like no other game.

Oh yes, great game. I'm looking forward to playing through it again in a few months, I've started to forget some parts of it. Not the water level of course.

And the next game, I wonder what it will be. The page suggests it is set in China. Also the blurry image it shows now is different from the one it had a few days ago.

Edit: Oh, and the google maps link no longer points to China now, but to Boreray. Interesting.

It's a little bit sharper.

I'm trying to think of what connects China and Boreray.
Possible locations of other Orbs... or tombs like the one in Algeria...

Edit: I have to admit I didn't find the water part all that scary. It was still a little scary, but all the hype everyone put on the water part.
Now the part after that... the dark storage. I quit for a week after meeting the monster. :cold:

I can't remember if it I liked it or not.

Har har har.

In all seriousness - I've had Amnesia installed for ages now, but never got around to playing it yet. I've still got the third Penumbra (series of games by the same developer - similar gameplay and premise - definitely worth checking out) game to finish first. I am looking forward to playing Amnesia soon though.

I'm bad with being scared but Frictional holds a special spot in my heart, especially Amnesia. It scares me, but in a good way.

Edit: Derp, hit post early << So yeah, I'm a fan, definitely looking forward to future games :P

Perhaps I'll give it a shot. I'm on a spiritual journey to find a game or movie that can actually scare me and have had no such luck.

Oh I love Amnesia. I have never finished it, I only got past the water part that left me shaking uncontrollably for 15 minutes afterwards, but I've seen a lot of playthroughs and funny bits of people completely freaking out on Youtube.
And of course I bet that everyone who likes Amnesia knows about the bag of milkyways :P

But yes, great game. It's refreshing to play something scary where you're actually completely defenseless with no weapons, and your only option is to run, hide and pray it doesn't find you. If Amnesia had been a game with guns or swords it wouldn't have been nearly as scary or succesfull I think.

It's probably the only game I like which I've never played myself. I only watched playthroughs on YouTube of it. Too [censored] to play it myself.

Thanks for the reminder.

I had it installed, but I had a CRT monitor when I installed it. My two options were, play the game as if everything was pitch black, even lighted areas. Or increase the gamma in which case I can see everything without even the lantern.

I need to do Penumbra now too.

*shudders* I took CD's advice in a thread I made around Halloween of last year, they told me to buy Amnesia to get scared, and boy were they right :ahhh:

Friend sent me a copy over steam for Christmas. Very, very good game.

This and the Condemned series are the only games that can make me take pause before turning a corner. Very well done.

Amnesia is one of the worst games ever created.

Any game that I litterally can't play due to the inability to to control my fear is dump.

Seriously, I can't play b/c I get the [censored] scared outta me.

The third Penumbra is not that great. It's just a series of rooms with different puzzles in them, of course, if you like that sort of thing...
Perhaps I'll give it a shot. I'm on a spiritual journey to find a game or movie that can actually scare me and have had no such luck.
It's worth a shot, but it all depends on your mindset going into the game. Try immersing yourself in the environment and story.

You know, Amnesia is a great game, and I admire its developers for their ideas (remembering a series of development blogs they released), but I honestly can't play it. I just act too realistically when I try to play truly scary games -- that is, to sit in a corner and not want to move away from the relative safety of said corner. So. Yeah.

No, I am not a fan. I don't care for horror games, excluding FEAR 1 and 2 (which was made by my uncle's company). But the Youtube videos people made of it are hilarious, so it seems like a great game just one I'll never play.

Oh boy, when I need a good scare, I turn off all the lights, turn up the base, and make sure I play it during the night.

If any one was following this thread. The http://www.nextfrictionalgame.com/.
The pictures is very clear and appears to be concept art of a tunnel and something hanging from the ceiling.
It links to an EXACT address 506 2nd Ave Seattle.
The first pic linked to china.
The second pic linked to Boreray.
Edit: Just looked up 506 2nd ave is the http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Smith_Tower.

Well, I'm thoroughly confused with regards to the location of the next game now.
The Smith Tower has a room on the 35th called the Chinese Room. Which may explain the original link to China.

Edit: Things to note, Lyman Cornelius Smith funded the place. Middle name is awfully familiar eh?
The furniture and Hand carved ceilings were gifts from the Empress of China.
There is a fallout shelter.
And most importantly the building was started in 1910 and finished in 1914. Which may be the most definite clue we have. The game is likely to occur after 1910(at the earliest).
1914 is also the date World War 1 started.
I can't find any connection to Boreray, yet.

Disregard my last bits of speculation.
I just uncovered some interesting facts.
Frictional Games will be working with the Chinese Room to develop this mystery game:
The evidence and clues put forward by both studios points to no other conclusion.
http://thechineseroom.co.uk/ are the devs behind the recent hit http://dear-esther.com/.

First the teaser site.
  • The first picture was incredibly indecipherable. It linked to china which was a vague reference to the Chinese Room.
  • The second was clearer, but still blurry. It linked to Boreray. Which was major inspiration behind the island of Dear Esther.
  • The third and Final picture was absolutely clear. It linked to the address of the Smith Tower. The notable attraction of the Smith Tower is the "Chinese Room" on the 35th floor.
Second is the Chinese room site.
It has a page for am upcoming survival horror game codenamed gameB.
They have stated that they "signed a deal with a shadowy sponsor".

Lastly there is an interesting http://www.nextfrictionalgame.com/inject_db.php?select_user=%27%20or%20%271%27=%271 by Frictional Games.
  • Two users, Jens and Admin, have passwords.
  • By promoting user Thomas, those on frictional games forums have uncovered http://i44.tinypic.com/24qq1zl.jpg.
  • Some think the letters are a secret message. Some think it is a name for a file(the presence of the letters ogg)
  • You can download the picture yourself. Just login as user Thomas. (note that most/all of the users in the ARG are FG devs)
  • Note that User DAN may be Dan Pinchbeck, leader behind The Chinese Room.
  • There is also a link to a video on youtube about the http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nn2FB1P_Mn8&feature=player_embedded.
I think that is everything.
