Any chance for becoming a Werewolf again, again?

Post » Tue Nov 20, 2012 12:57 pm

Hello folks. First time poster here.

I've made the mistake of curing my lycanthropy twice. I had previously been under the impression that I could go back at will, but after talking to Aela a few times, and a bit of research online, I was a little heartbroken to find that it was currently impossible.

This is especially poignant due to that my second infection was 17 levels ago, and my subsequent curing was 13 levels ago (I had decided to try out being a Vampire Lord). Going back would negate many, many hours of play for me, which is something I would very much like to avoid. Similarly, I can easily see myself avoiding ever taking advantage of becoming a werewolf again, simply because I would know that it would be my last time, and if ever I wanted to go back to being a vampire or being neither I would end up with the same problem I have now.

I understand that being a werewolf is supposed to be something 'rare', and that going back and forth with abandon offends some people's perspective when it comes to role playing a character. I do not want to have that discussion; I understand that position already.

What I do want to know: Is there any worth in hoping for an upcoming patch or fix that might allow multiple werewolf infections, similar to how one can become a Vampire Lord (and cure one's self) multiple times? This would greatly enhance my gameplay experience.

I'm on 360, so Mods and the like seem to be out of the question, unfortunately.

Once you go wolf with Aela that is the only time you can have it, even the Ring of Hircine can't give you back your beast form. Go VL first if you prefer wolf form over that then you can start the Companions, but if you like VL better finish the companions then talk to Serana.

They need to add the disease to wild werewolves... the fact that i turned into a vampire, then had to turn back into a werewolf to carry on the story means that i cant turn back into a vampire to save Valerica from the soul cairn unless i plan on never become a werewolf again :0

I want to go save her but i cant :c

This is not something that needs to be 'fixed' or 'patched' as if the creators did something wrong.

If they wanted werewolves to be unlimited, they would have made it that way in the first place in the vanilla game. If they then wanted to change their minds, they had another chance in the DLC. Guess what, they still didn't change it much. You're lucky they give you even one more chance now.

So, no I don't think there's much hope. If they wanted it that way, it would have been that way in the DLC.

(Not to mention it'll be illogical to change diseases like you change clothes. It shouldn't be that easy to change back and forth, over and over again, between supernatural forms.)

I doubt the devs will ever give your more chances than this. Either go back to your old save or start a new character, thats your best bet.

As I recall, there are only 2 glenmoril witch heads left to cure one's self with. I think that is the reason why there is no way to become a werewolf more than twice.

The problem with adding the disease is, its already established the companion strain of lycanthropy is not the same as the regular strain. So they'd need two different forms of werewolves, additionally as Stormwind points out there is a limited number of glenmoril witches, so its not a repeatable quest like curing vampirism. They'd also need to call back the voice actors for the companions as having lycanthropy before joining the companions should effect dialog.

Truth, you have a point. It does now seem that Bethesda wanted lycanthropy to be only accessible twice. I guess my hope was that they might at some point change their minds. It seemed to me at least that Lycanthropy should be anologous to Vampirism, which you actually can remove and replace 'like you change clothes' with a simple dialogue option or a trip to Morthal and a purchasable black soul gem. I really liked having the ability to switch back and forth between being a normal person and a Vampire Lord at will, and I really hoped that Lycanthropy would have been similar.

Likewise, because contracting Lycanthropy cures Vampirism, and Vampirism cures Lycanthropy, the game already includes the ability to switch diseases on a whim- a simple dialogue option and you have it, done and done. If you have the other, then a simple dialogue option switches diseases for you already. The only difference between the two is that the dialogue option only pops up once for Lycanthropy and infinite times for Vampirism, which was a shocking inconsistency that I discovered much later than I would have hoped.

I had 5 glenmoril witch heads. I used one of them to cure my lycanthropy at the end of the Companions quest line, and curing myself the second time only took selecting a dialogue option from Serena, as I described above. I still have 4 witch heads left over.

That's a major bummer, man. And it's the kind of situation that I would have hoped Bethesda would try to avoid.

Serana can be cured of vampirism afterwards she can no longer make you a vampire lord. Which means if you've used up all the witchheads its no longer possible to be cured of lycanthropy.

One Head for the Quest
One Head for Yourself
One Head for Viikas
One head for Farkas
This leaves you with one additional head to cure yourself a second time and as I said if Serana is no longer a vampire the loop you purpose is closed.
