Any good games to play while waiting for Fallout 4?

Post » Mon Dec 23, 2013 9:10 pm

The objective of this is simple. I want to get as many similar games to Fallout on one thread so us heartbroken fans can keep ourselves busy during the wait. I guess I'll kickstart it with my recommendations.

Borderlands 2- Excellent alternative with a strong story, fun combat, and an open world, but light on RPG elements.

STALKER Series- Probably as close as you can get to playing Fallout itself.

Far Cry 3- Not Post-Apocalyptic but provides a stunning open world with fun combat and looting.

Metro Series- This series is linear, but it has an excellent atmosphere with fun survival mechanics.

These are what I know of that can replicate a Fallout feel. What else do you guys recommend?

Define 'a Fallout feel'...
Rage, The Last of Us, Wasteland, any TES game. DayZ could work too.

Any game with similar themes that can bring the kind of satisfaction a Fallout game does, while being similar to it in terms of gameplay and lore. I just remembered, Wasteland 2 is available now :nuke:

You'll be needing a lot of games to play if you're waiting for Fallout 4.

You'll have to have a PS3 for The Last of Us though.

Not this:

If you haven't yet, I suggest giving Fallout 1, 2 and Tactics a try. :tops:

They're all currently on sale on GOG.

I would say http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mad_Max_(2014_video_game) but that hasn't been released yet, I guess Borderlands or Fallout NV or FO3.

:( But the open world? Still, I agree, it's Bethesda feel rather than Fallout atmosphere. Some FO3 fans would find it interesting, I think.

I don't want to believe that but it's probably true. At least we know that Bethesda will say something at some point in 2014, because they can't keep hush that long, right? I think PAX East in April may hold an announcement, because it's in Boston. (Unless that rumor is false as well)

I'd suggest Rage, but tack on a sort of Caveat Emptor.

Rage is a pretty good FPS as far as FPS games go and I think it has a good post-apocalyptic setting, however, there is an undertone of much being left to be desired in the flavouring, IE mini-games and general lore. Plus, I feel the story took a weird turn when you get to the final level due to

Spoiler
The whole 'Authority mind controlled Mutants' thing. It just felt....IDK...like some weird ass alien stuff.

Didn't something leaked about Fallout 4 being in Boston? Never bother reading about it since I don't play Fallout myself but I did saw something about that and just shrug it away...

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fallen_Earth I've never played a video game that reminded me so much of Fallout3/New Vegas. In terms of atmosphere I think it looks and feels almost like an expansion pack for New Vegas. It is an open-world, classless RPG that takes place in a post-apocalyptic northern Arizona. It is an online game, which some people won't like. But it's free-to-play these days, so I don't think there's much to lose by trying it.

You should play Arena or Daggerfall. That'll keep you busy.
