Any Lovecraftian potential?

Post » Mon Oct 21, 2013 8:29 am

Out of all and any themes in any form of media, Lovecraftian themes and stories always serve to snag me up. I was wondering if any TES lore junkies had some info? Some Yithian lookalikes, perhaps a reference to some ancient, unperturbed power that could wash away Tamriel in a second? I know that there's that one village with a reference to Deep Ones, but is there anything...else?

But then, before you read that, it's a negative article, but it illustrates points you can ponder over

Well that was an interesting read, however I do feel a significant disconnect between the Aedra/Daedra and Lovecraftian themes to throw them out as being connected. Why? Because there's just no real mystery around them. Sure they're scary and powerful and have no morals similar to ours, but alien things are only frightening to Lovecraftian fans when they're both alien and when we barely know anything about them. At least, IMO.

It's why I feel confident saying Hackdirt is Lovecraftian whereas Daedra/Aedra are not; we do not know what happened. All we have is information from observers of what the people became, and some strange text we could never hope to understand. We're left feeling uneasy because we don't know and never will. We know the origin of the Daedra and Aedra, however, and know why their morals are distant from ours. There's been a psuedo-scientific explanation of it, which seems to reduce some of the appeal and fear-factor for me.
