Any modifications to the d3d9 file makes my game lag. ALOT

Post » Sun May 20, 2012 4:11 am

I have tried to install various forms of fps boost for skyrim, but if it involves a d3d9 file, it seems to make my game lag alot. Is there a solution for this? Please help! Intel Core i7 up to 2.9ghz nvidia geforce gt 540m 6gb of Ram.

Don't use those mods.

Which ones were you trying? I don't know any performance boosters that use d3d9; I've only seen graphics enhancers use it.

I'm using the skyrim better performance mod. Found here. http://www.fileplanet.com/223433/220000/fileinfo/Elder-Scrolls-V:-Skyrim---Skyrim-Better-Performance-Mod-v1.1a
Also I tried the ENB mod, and same results. My performance is decreased to about 10 fps.

ENB won't improve performance. The first patch wouldn't hurt it either, but generally, ENB is a performance killer, for the sake of beauty.

The Performance enhancer worked wonders for me. Don't know why it didn't work for you. Perhaps try contacting the author and tell him your computer (and GPU) specs and maybe he can shed light on how he coded it.

BUGS!

- Launcher Bug: d3d9.dll file will change name of your Graphic Adapter in settings.
I have Nvidia GeForce9600GT and after repleacing .dll file, in options i see GeForce 8800 GS instead of my real Graphic Adapter name - THIS REALLY DOESN'T MATTER!
- Many peoples might get crash with Crossfire or SLI
- usually crashes with XFIRE possible fix for this - In Xfire go to Tools>options>'game' tab and click on the checkbox "Disable Xfire in game"

It's a pretty good bet this is your problem, the VendorID and DeviceID need setting to your specific card.

Manually change it in your ini.

540M is a mobile Nvidia GPU, meaning you've probably got Optimus (switches intel and discrete based on program). Any edited d3d9.dll file will force the use of the intel graphics, hence terrible lag; I have the same problem. Nvidia has totally failed to get back to me...and there is no current working solution, sorry.

What does it say for "sD3DDevice=" in SkyrimPrefs.ini? Mine changed when I installed SBPM and I manually changed it back to my card. Maybe it will make a difference?
