Any New SpellsEnchantments?

Post » Thu Nov 15, 2012 8:56 pm

Do you think we'll see any new spells or enchanting effects in Dragonborn? I think there is a lot of room for new additions to either. I would love to see simple things like a cure disease spell, or enchantments that would up the power of destruction magic.

I do not think levitation will be included, though: there are too many areas that wouldn't work correctly if you could fly. Whiterun, for example, is not enterable or leavable by jumping over the wall.

Not sure about enchantments but there will likely be new spells and defiantly new shouts.

This is definitely something I would like to see return to the series. It always bugged me they just dropped established stuff like levitation and water walking. Oh well, I guess I'll have to see if there are any mods for this. In any case as the above posted said, it's practically a certainty we will get new shouts and likely some new spells like dawnguard added.

There's almost certainly new spells. It would boggle my mind if there wasn't any.

Dawnguard added quite a few, most a little too selectively useful. Restoration and Conjuration got all of them I think. (The conjuration spells are amazing though)

Sadly, some of the most amazing spells in any Elder Scrolls game are limited to the Vampire Lord itself. Vampiric Grip (Telekinesis on overdrive) and the Vampire Lord's Drain Life spell are among the most insane spells ever.

I'm really hoping for some awesome destruction spells in Dragonborn. Failing that, at least a way to augment our destruction potency in the long-term. Like a Fortify Fire-Frost-Shock enchantment for Ring/Glove slot...

Pretty sure levitation was dropped in Oblivion and Skyrim because of cities, they're separate cells in the game, if you levitate out of the city you're going to glitch yourself out.

I know why they were dropped, it's just that dropping them didn't make sense in the game world that everyone would just suddenly forget how to levitate. Also, open cities mods and everything work fine on PC so it was only for consoles that the morrowind way of doing things had to be dropped. I get that they had to make that choice to cater to console players, but I am lamenting the consequences.

Spell crafting is out because it can be exploited, Bethesda is being smart this time.

I don't see why not, its not like Skyrim is a multiplayer game. If people want to cheat, let them.

Hopefully there are cool new spells alongside more utilization of older spells. Things like spell crafting and spell combos could be added for this purpose and they could breathe more life in older spells.

Really? Please, tell me how did it allow you to deal thousands of points of damage, get stats counted in thousand etc? Alchemy allowed that, and it still does.

The problem is, people who "cheat" in such a way also comment that the game is too easy, skill x is useless etc. And that gives you false information.

You would destroy precious balance and realism, abuse mechanics and deliberately overpower your character for your personal enjoyment in a single player game?! Preposterous! Thankfully we have Bethesda to take away all those sharp toys and no-no's from previous titles so that no child may ever get hurt... in a single player game.

Someone brought up scroll crafting in another thread, any chance it may make it into this DLC?

There's bound to be some new spells in this DLC, even if just a sprinkling of them.
I think they need a couple of new spells to keep the mages rolling.

Our prime enemy is pretty much a lich-mage, There's just gotta be some great aspects in magic, and as well (especially) new shouts

Well, pressuming he was once a Dragon Priest, he must have some nifty Magic tricks to pass down to us, not to mention how long he's had to make some new ones... He's been gone a LONG Time...

In Oblivion, I hoarded so many books in my Skingrad House, I had to sleep in them... O.o

I find it hard to believe that any kind of contact with the old houses of Morrowind (especially Telvanni) would leave us without some kind of new magic.
