Any news on the UI? Multimonitor Support?

Post » Mon Jun 17, 2013 1:41 am

Hi all, this is my 1st post on the ESO forums.

I was playing Skyrim yesterday and I have two main concerns about ESO:

  • Will the UI be a complete console port like Skyrim and extremely badly done? This one is a game breaker for me.
  • Will there be native multi-monitor support if not at release, planned at some point? I need to use a third party hack to get skyrim to run on my three monitors properly.

Skyrim is a great game but the PC version was an afterthought sadly.

You mean the console version? Pretty sure Skyrim was built with the PC in mind before the consoles.

I really hope they have multi-monitor support though, and do a good job on the console ports. It should be increasingly less difficult to do so since the consoles are fairly up to speed in terms of technology. No one has a clue about either feature though, so it's a wait and see thing, like most things.

The UI was built for consoles with no changes for the PC version. At least that's what all the hullabaloo was about when the game was released. I admit its been a while since I fired it up though. The UI really is poor.

For the skyrim the UI wasn't, it was designed around a controller and not a mouse and keyboard. It is why since day one it has been plagued with problems with mice. The most common problem that I even still get to this day is when I have all my monitors hooked up I get basically double mouse arrows. And overall the whole control scheme was intended for controllers, scrolling through inventories and such are just plain better with a controller than a mouse and keyboard...no to mention if you have a 360 controller plugged into your computer it automatically defaults to controller in skyrim.

Oh... right. It's been so long since I've used Skyrim's UI.. guess that only proves your point. I thought a lot of the features were pretty cool, but as far as navigation goes, you're right it was very lacking.

I think there was some interview where they kind of recognized the problem, I wish I could find it but they basically said they would never repeat the mistake again.

I hope they build the UI like the one in Everquest 2 which is html based and players can basically do what they like with it, move windows, resize re-skin and redesign the whole UI if they wish. That would be cool - I miss it in other games.

ESO's UI will be mod-able using the Lua programming language.

Woohoo! That's one concern out of the way then! Just need to pray for the multimonitor support and I'm set :)
