Any solution for crashes to desktop?

15 minutes this time. Still crashes when trying to grab all items from a container. Not every time, but too often.

Edit: Then 30 min, then 8 min.

This is not a game, it's Chinese water torture.

Was having frequent crashes and had heard the realtech sound system could be related. I turned off hardware sound acceleration in dxdiag and didn't have another crash while playing for a couple of hours. Seemed to have fixed the problem. Weird thing is, I went back to dxdiag to verify my information before I posted and the hardware acceleration is back on full. Don't know what to make of that...

I will test this 4gb Patch and the 5 minute autosave fix now. I will get back to you all and let you know if it works.
It worked for a while. I managed to quick travel to a few locations when it would normally crash. However I entered Bonechill Passage and the game crashed. I don't know what to do to fix it anymore.

Gonna be my last update on this matter. Installed the 4gb patch and haven't crashed after 6 or so hours of gameplay. I also put my AA and AS settings back to full, because before the 4gb patch I tried lowering them to see if it would fix the crashing. Still no problems!

It seems that along with more than one solution, there is also more than one cause to this crash to desktop ordeal. I've heard people say that changing their sound quality has fixed their problem, that was not the case for me. Also reading over this topic it seems the 4gb patch is not solving it for others, so this issue is gonna be a tough one to crack it seems.

Does it quit to desktop without warning or error message? That happened to me and I found a fix for it and has not happened since. I read on another thread here that you need to make game use more than 2GB RAM. Google "4GB Patch" and apply it to the game's EXE. As far as I know, this only works on 64-bit computers. Hope this helps ya :)

This actually seems to work for me! I just played for 1 hour and 15 minutes'ish which is about three times the norm, so I'm crossing my fingers and I'll get back to you next time I get to play a bit more - now I've gotta reap some calculus "quests" <_<
