[FNVEdit] ~ Any way to use it without FNV installed?

Post » Fri Nov 16, 2012 5:16 pm

Hi.

I remember this argument being debated somewhere else, but I didnt need this info at the time.

Now I dont seem to be able to find that thread again, so sorry if this is a duplicate.

What I'd like to know is if there's any way to make FNVEdit work even without Fallout New Vegas being installed.
I remember someone tried it by building a fake folders structure and creating fake files to swindle FNEdit's checks, but then I didnt stay to read about results. Regrets burn!! >.<

Anybody knows whether and how this can be done?

Thank you! =)

I'd suggest FO3Edit instead as its plugins are also v0.94 (FNV is v1.34). Anyhow, yes, you can use *Edit w/o the game its for. Just make a Fallout 3 directory, drop FO3Edit in it, then add the registry key, a blank plugins.txt and you're good to go. Skyrim.ESM will open all the way as will any Skyrim mods, but editing will be disabled unless certain record groups are removed/simplified. I'd suggest delocalizing a copy of Skyrim.ESM for this so you have human readable names to view.

Thank you for your reply. Actually I only need FNVEdit to edit the default terrain height and to add the default and LOD water height.
Just, ehm.....what registry keys should I add....? ^^'

Try, for FO3Edit:
Spoiler
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Bethesda Softworks][HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Bethesda Softworks\Fallout 3][HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Bethesda Softworks\Fallout 3\1.00.0000][HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Bethesda Softworks\Fallout3]"Installed Path"="Z:\\Games\\Fallout 3\\"[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall\{974C4B12-4D02-4879-85E0-61C95CC63E9E}]"InstallLocation"="Z:\\Games\\Fallout 3\\""InstallSource"="Z:\\""ProductGuid"="{974C4B12-4D02-4879-85E0-61C95CC63E9E}""DisplayName"="Fallout 3""Publisher"="Bethesda Softworks"
...as a .REG file, changing 'Z:\' instances with the appropriate path(s).

Be prepared as it'll probably choke on the Skyrim plugin and editing will be disabled.

Thanks a lot for the infos, but cant work, if I cant use it to edit....

I need FNVEdit to add and edit Default Land and Water levels along with LOD Water level so that Oscape reads them correctly for the LODs generation.....
