Anybody know how to get Skyrim to use special symbolscharact

Post » Mon May 14, 2012 2:01 am

I'm trying to use a special symbol in my character's name: specifically, ?. Now, if I had the construction set, I'd just create a MESG with the desired name and use setactorfullname, but it's not available yet. In the meantime, does anybody know how to use special character inputs in the game?

It must be possible, because someone on the issues forum posted a screenshot of their menus displaying their "new" name. The original name had é in it I think it was, but the game turned their name into something like H@-!d. It really looked funky. It didn't handle the ASCII symbol well, but it produced even more symbols in their name instead. *boggle*

Well--the Xbox character set allows for accented characters. I have a friend with an accented Nordic name. And I was able to hex edit the save game and put the ? in my character's name, which displayed perfectly in the little description for the savegame--but it seems that the text at the top of the save file only applies to the display name in the load/save screen. The actual character name doesn't seem to be stored in a format that I can easily find via hex editing.

So the game's fonts should be able to perfectly handle accented characters--I just don't know how to enter them into the game.
