Anyone else feel BEthesda is the last hope of gaming?

Post » Fri Jul 06, 2012 7:57 am

After Bioware failed hard with TOR, DA:2 and made the worst ending in gaming history with ME3 - Ive lost ALL faith in them.

Blizzard really threw the potential for a great scifi space story in the toilet aswell with SC2. Though the game itself was ok. But then they decide to make another WoW expansion (MIsts of pandaria? Please...) and with Diablo 3s failure aswell Ive lost all faith in Blizzard too.

As a veteran gamer that has been gaming for 20 years not much appease me anymore, maybe my standards are to high.

Bethesda is now almost the only game company capable of "Giving me my dose" anyone else feel they are the last hope aswell? (To put it abit dramatic  )

Giants fall, and Bethesda is making an MMO. Bad move IMO, but hey - as things are going now and knowing Bethesdas trackrecord... I believe in them. Even if that sounds absurdly fanboyish.

1. No. Indie gaming is the last hope for gaming.
2. Bethesda makes only one kind of game: Open-world RPGs. They only have two IPs. That's not going to save gaming.
3. Bethesda isn't making an MMO. Zenimax, their parent company, is.

Considering the responses you're getting from Bethesda's own community, that should give you your answer.

Indie games is where it's at.

You'll be happy to hear that Bethesda (the developer) is not working on TESO. That is being worked on by ZeniMax Online and being published by Bethesda (the publisher not developer).

Maybe I should add "when it comes to gaming giants" like Bethesda, Bioware and Blizzard - to name the most popular ones.

There is always good single players comming out like max payne 1, god of war, dead space etc. But these wont keep you having fun for months and months like Morrowind did for example.

People need to actually buy indie games before there's even a chance for them.

Err... the story-lines in their games have been progressively worse since Morrowind (some would even say Daggerfall), Number of quests in Skyrim is low compared to previous games, many very good gameplay elements were removed, guild quests are imho worse than in both MW and OB etc, etc.

In my opinion modding community is the ONLY thing that keeps Bethesda games going. However that ONE thing is enough to keep me entertained for hundreds of hours..

And LAST hope of gaming? If it truly is so, then we are doomed :S

Also, I don't think Bioware failed with TOR or DA:2. TOR is a very entertaining and unique MMO which is still widely popular. DA:2 had its flaws, but it also had in my opinion the strongest characters than any other Bioware game. They felt relatable and very human to me.

Last year alone had tons of good indie games. If I had to pick favourites it would be Bastion, Magicka and Frozen Synapse.

Game play wise? Hell no. Bethesda is just as good at shooting good games out of the sky and then using their Molag Bal charm to do unspeakable acts to the corpse of said good game. But they don't do it willingly I don't think. They tried their hardest to make the lore non conflicting in Fallout 3. As a company? I would think so. They sometimes release things for free via patches, even on consoles. I can trust Bethesda not to pull stupid shenanigans that I expect from EA or ActiVision.

That's how I see it as well. The worst we get with Bethesda is timed exclusives for DLC on the 360, Steamworks (Not an issue for me, but not everyone likes it), and being left in the dark information-wise every now and then. But the DLCs are fair, and Steam means we don't get any other more annoying DRM, or Games For Windows Live. With EA and Activision you never know what they're going to try next.

Bethesda is part of the reason we need a last hope for gaming. Much like most films all have a comic relief character to be mainstream Bethesdas whole UI and design values seem to lean towards catering to the kind of people who bullied me a lot in high school for gaming instead of joining the rugby team.

It's either Wasteland 2s devs or some indie company from Siberia, or Taleworlds.

Bethesda's good, don't get me wrong, but no. Indie's where it's at, maybe not all of it, but with Kick Starter and whatnot, indie games actually stand a chance now. Here's to hoping.

Funny I'm sort of in the same boat I wonder sometimes if I'm overly hard on some games, which can be the case sometimes. But I've found a lot of it is I'm just sick of EA games shinnanigans, while activision blizzard just pumps out sequels.

Bethesda makes cool games and I like that there is a lot of veriety to them, but I think if there is going to be one game studio that makes some excellent games in the future it'd be FromSoftware.

Nah thats Activision. Bobby Kotick is the messiah of gaming, you'll see. He'll part the sea of mediocre games and deliver unto us the lords bounty of next gen call of duty and guitar hero titles.
