Anyone else think Dawngaurd was kind of a miss?

I do feel like it could've been better. Specifically the areas you mentions the forgotten vale and the soul cairn could've been much more interesting and they hardly did anything with those areas other than the main quest. I wanted some side quests. I wanted to actually meet and talk to the Ideal masters and visit the Coffin Chapel and the Chapel of Love in the soul cairn. I also feel as if the "overhaul" on the vampires could have been MUCH better (My vampiric drains still svcks, I can't have thralls etc.).
-Sigh- I think that sometimes. There's a mod that fixes Serana nerfing your VL powers already. There's also mods that improve the VL's powers. The VL is a welcome addition but I feel as if Bethesda should of improved the base vampire form. Give vampires some neat spells that you don't already have. Blood of the ancients is cool but is only useful for the VL form and not the base vampire form. Maybe I've been spoiled by looking at some of the mods for vampire overhauls and then I see what we got in dawnguard and think this is all bethesda can come up with? I still enjoyed dawnguard but I feel as if they could have done much better.
Yeah I agree I mean there is even a mod on steam workshop that gives the vampire lord perks that improves your base form I am shocked that even bethesda did not think of these ideas.

He puts in a perk for everyone if you are blocking in base form you summon a cloud of bats that drain health from enemies around you, your bound weapons now steal health from people you hit it with, your enhancements that drain magicka, hp and stamina is now 25% stronger another perk when attacking an enemy in melee at night you have 25% chance to cause fear on them. He even has stuff there for stealth characters.

Take a look.

Plus many more as my brother said it seems like bethesda is relying on modders to add/fix things for them but here is the problem people play on the consoles are stuck with lackluster features and bugs. Its the reason why I went from ps3 to PC.

not sure if it is a miss what i really don't like is how big of a timesink this whole dlc is
ever noticed how all locations are as far apart as possible on the map, for those who never use fast travel it is a huge time sink and a pretty boring one aswell after a while
probably 2/3into the DLC so other than what i wrote earlier about dawnguard, some of the new sites are really impressive

Dead Money, etc.

1: New Vegas is an Obsidian game, don't give Beth the credit for it.

2: Dead Money was fantastic.

On-topic: I really did like Dawnguard and had a ton of fun playing it. But there's a lot of wasted potential for sure. Funny this is, I was so physched to play a VL and they were fun but the appeal has worn. Actually, I had a ton more fun playing a DG character, yay for crossbows. Plus the DG armor is great.

I was good but needs a good amount of polishing.
-They balanced out Vampirism to make it comparable with lycanthropy.
- Added a stronger weapons class
- Added more monsters
- A mount that can be summoned
- Crossbows as an alternative weapon
- Stronger Monsters to fight
- Unlocks the ability to change the appearance of your character.
- And more!

It's sucessful in my mind.

It would have been a success in my mind at $10 but was an epic fail at $20 expected to have way more content for that price.

lets pressume you are on a pc

Vampires, there are several mods that makes vampirism much more immersive without actual unbalancing the game

Again several good mods out there that add new weapons even unique weapons again without unbalacing the game
again there is mod that gives you dozen of new monsters you can encounter, even levelscaled
shadow mere yes??? and again mods
lets do a challenge have a look at nexus and drool on what is available here , graphics , armours , gametweaks immersion etc

Mods do not add a completely new weapon type, the vampire lord form, vampire lord and werewolf perk trees, new lore and boss fights like Dawnguard's. Most quest mods do not even have voice-acted quests. It is also worth to note that many new mods will require Dawnguard as they will be utilising it's resources.

The mod argument can be used against any DLC or expansion, even Shivering Isles. I mean, there is a modder who wants to make Elsweyr, right?

Should have had a bat teleport power to appear behind enemies, an actual ability to fly (it seems to work in mods just not allowed in cities and can only enter through the door)

An ability to optionally bite in VL form

And some base powers for the vampire. I dunno, a mini blood bolt power?

wow, another person that think mods are the solution to everything. The majority of the people that own this game (ps3 and 360) do not have acess to mods.

It really had a lot of potential with the vampires the vale and the soul cairn, the vampires coming out of ice,the daedric prince,it could have gone into a lot of detail and have some really epic moments like a cool scene would have been if you joined the dawngaurd you all venture out unto the ice to search for the castle and all of a sudden vampires drag to NPC's down under and start coming up from out of the ice a long with the castle having Harkon sitting at the top of the castle in a gargoyle like stance in his Vampire Lord form. And having the vale explore more with the strange and wild creatures it has.The story was short and not very interesting imo and could have explained and expanded a lot more, also expanding skyrim more across the ice around the area of the castle and had a bigger area for the dawngaurd, also more ways to get into the soul cairn multiple times and more things to do.They also could have expanded on the werewolf side with the werecreatures and whatnot but I have another thread for that.It just could have been a lot better and was a bit of a let down in my opinion. What do you guys think of this and what would you guys have liked to see in Dawngaurd?,story wise, gameplay wise, new area wise. One thing I don't like in skyrim,is how much of it takes place under ground especially when Dragons take to the skies,Dawngaurd only added to this, the caves and the dungeons and underground areas,it gets old after a while.

Nope.

I disagree with you on pretty much every point you've made.

I loved Dawnguard during the Beta, and I love it even more now, several months later.

It's run smooth and clean on my Xbox, and I'm still having a great time with it.

They just puffed themselves up with unrealistic expectations, and then were disappointed when Dawnguard was the DLC story that Bethesda wanted to tell.

I personally love it, and I think it's both well written and well executed.

If they're feeling some angst and deceit over the content/storyline of Dawnguard, then they have only themselves to blame. Which is usually what happens when uber-hyped speculation turns out to be completely wrong, which is what happened with 98% of the 150 speculation threads that popped up when the name "Dawnguard" was released onto the Forums.

I've still gotten some attacks in towns.

Odd then that I haven't. I've got 60 hours of post-Dawnguard play on my current character and I haven't had a vampire attack on a settlement since completing the quest and I fast-travel everywhere.

Ii think the actual story telling and character interaction (Serana excluded) could have been done better. I just didn't feel pulled into the story . I never felt betrayed, nor did I feel guilty for betraying certain npc's. I saw mention of KoN earlier in the thread even though it was a short dlc which added two maybe three dungeons to the present world space the storytelling and personal interaction was great. Every time I lost one of my recruited knights I felt regret at the loss. At the end of KoN I still wanted more of the story.
At the end of Dawnguard it didn't bother me much that it was over.

The dlc never runs smoothly for me it seems every other time I turn in a quest I have to reload my save to avoid some glitch. The added areas are nice and large with interesting things in them, but they still seem empty. In the end I would have been happier with the added areas being smaller and the storytelling interaction being greater . The main storyline on both sides has so much more potential.

There was a mod for Oblivion that sticks with me and exemplifies this it was called A Dremora companion can't remember who made it ,
but with full voice acting and excellent storytelling and interaction it is what I grade all dlc off of.
Still I give Dawnguard a 6.5 out of 10 and reccomend to buy.
