Anyone else zombie'd out?

Post » Fri Sep 20, 2013 6:06 pm

I found my (still in the shrink wrap) copy of Dead Island: Riptide while I was unpacking old boxes from when I moved months ago. I don't remember why I bought it, seeing as I haven't even played the first one.

While lobbing zombies apart in DI:R, I realized that I was just a zombie myself. Am I burned out on zombies? Thinking it over I realized I am. This sudden realization kind of has me bummed. Seeing as I really used to enjoy a cheesy or good zombie-type flick/game/novel/comic. It's not that I think they're bad necessarily, I just zone out while I play a zombie game or watch a movie with them (say World War Z).

Anyone else zombie'd out or am I just being a wet blanket about this whole zombie craze?

Zombies have been overdone lately So I can understand why someone could burned out on the subject.

It depends on how engaging the game is. A repetive and tedious zombie game will of course give the game less entertainment value, whereas interesting and exciting ones tend to immerse me, which again leads me to take the game more seriously. The Last of Us is to me for example more engaging than Left for Dead, since I tend to value story and dialogue, while constant action bores me.

I don't play zombie games (unless Oblivion counts), don't watch zombie films and apart from The Returned, haven't been anywhere near a zombie series, yet even I have had enough just hearing about them. I blame Black Ops 2 meself.

I think with many games we can all "zone out". Games can be a welcome distraction, especially when reality gets over-demanding.

The genre that is Zombie apocalypse/Survival horror is a fav of mine. I never tire of Zombies but I do have different trends that I enjoy jumping in to. You know, just to break things up.

Zombies have been overdone for years. I've never seen the appeal of them in games.

Not for me, but I think it's because I don't force it on myself like some people tend to. I only watch shows/play games with zombies when I am in the mood.

Yeah, kinda.

Especially since not-that-clever people seem to seriously worry about a zombie apocalypse now. Sheesh.

When I was a kid the zombie was one of my least favorite monsters, together with the mummy. Never found them particularly interesting.

The Walking Dead show really appealed to me because they focused on the humanity instead of the gore but I must say that when it comes to other series, movies and games I am all zombied-out at the moment.
