Anyone figure out why Shouts don't work sometimes?

Post » Sun Jun 10, 2012 3:20 am

Playing on a PC, and sometimes during a battle, I cannot get a Shout off when I want it.

Just won't happen sometimes. Then, if you try shouting after the battle, it works fine. If you try changing the Shout you have equiped during the battle, it will say that you cannot change the Shout while Shouting.

So something seems to be delaying the Shout...

Anyone overcome this problem?

Oh, and yes, the Shout delay timer indicator (i.e.heading bar) is not active. Generally this is the first time in a long time that I have needed to Shout, and it won't work when I need it.

I used to think it was my full face helmet stopping it!

You can't shout when attacking with anything. If attempted you can mess up your shout to make it unequipped. If you sheath and draw your weapon or select a new shout then revert to the one you want, it should work.

I'll have to try sheathing my weapon sometime while this is happening, because attempting to select a new Shout doesn't fix it as the game won't let you switch Shouts. Although its kinda crazy to sheath your weapon during the middle of combat.

This really is a bad problem because this means that you can't rely on your Shout saving you in those circumstances when you really need to stagger your opponent.

Sore throat.

All that shouting and cold air...

:teehee:

Sometimes if you just used a shout with a long CD, then switched to another, the bar will be normal indicating the shout is ready to use when in fact it's still cooling down from the last shout~

Having the same problem too, plus, sometimes I can't even use my sword in combat. This just happened while I was fighting sabres cats. Do saber cats use paralysis spells?

I get my weapons locking up on 360, I've had it often with my Mage who was using a 2handed Warhammer (don't ask), sometimes in the middle of battle the damn thing would just stop swinging, triggers wouldn't respond at all like the game was saying mages can't use warhammers so were going to stop it working.

Then I started to get it on my archer, bow in resting position just refused to draw, everything else works just not the current equipped weapon, had to reload an older save that time.

Irritating how you can't just rely in this game to work how it should, only game I've even played that freezes on loading screens and has locking up controls.

I could be wrong, but it usually this phrase pretty much answers every question you'll ever have about this game:

Because Skyrim IS quality.

Dragons can also stun you briefly when they land close to you, you can't shout during this moment either.

Yeah that happens to me sometimes, usually when somethings hitting me. I stop hitting back and drop my shield to shout... and nothing. It's infuriating.

I'm on the 360.

Ah, that explains why on my mage character, I often find my shouts not firing. I'm probably mid-cast, or charging the spell, or something. Never had that problem with my pure archer.

Sheathing my weapon when this happens usualy causes my shout to go off.

Sometimes you may get staggered a bit and can't shout. I have seen your issue too, where I can't select a shout or change my shout.
It usually fixes itself after a while. Very annoying.
