Anyone get their Best Buy preorder bonus?

Post » Wed Oct 10, 2012 7:37 pm

I'm getting the sinking feeling that Best Buy's rampant incompetence is coming to bite me again after picking up my PC copy today. None of the receipts had any sort of code on them and the cashier just gave me a deer in the headlights look when I asked about it. After twenty minutes of searching around they fished up a USB lantern to hand to me. Not entirely to my surprise, there's no sign of a bonus code inside the lantern box.

The Best Buy webpage implies that they're going to e-mail the code for people who bought online, but there's no sign of it yet, and I don't know if that's also the plan for people who bought in-store. I don't want to break the seal on the box to see if the code's inside, 'cause then I can't return it, so if anyone did successfully get their code from Best Buy, could you let me know what form it came in? It would help immensely if I knew what I was looking for.

I just returned from BB and I specifically asked about the code when I picked up my pre ordered copy. It was not on my original receipt and the girl did have to "exchange" it and rerun it a second time. This time the code did come out, at least it looks like the code. It is a series of 5 numbers or letters, 3 times. XXXXX-&&&&&-JJJJJ like this. This was at 12:00 Noon EST.

I have not loaded it yet so I cannot be sure it is good, but I will find out for sure after work. Good luck.

...crap. I definitely don't have that. Welp, now I get to drive back to the store and try to find someone who has the ability and inclination to fix this.

I've actually found BB to be pretty helpful about stuff like this in the two different states I've lived in. If all else fails, talk to a manager.

Well thank you all for your help, now that I know that I'm looking for a code on the receipt I know exactly what to ask for instead of some vague 'I don't think I got my preorder bonus.' That's a big help.

I work in Geek Squad and we actually just had a meeting about this for all the new hires for seasonal help.

Best Buy has to manually add the bonus to the transaction. It isn't automatically put on the receipt. Most cashiers aren't aware of this fact.

Best Buy should have added your pre-order code to your receipt after paying for the game. Additionally, if you have provided an email address to them, the code should also have been emailed to you as well.

He's correct, at least from my experience. The cashier had to manually add the code to my receipt and requested my email address, but not until I had asked about it. Make sure you ask about your pre-order IN-GAME code and not just the whale USB lamp.

Hey, I preordered from best buy as well, but for xbox, and while my receipt had a code on it, and I put it in, and it even said "Shadow Rat pack unlocked" or something similar, i've just started the game and don't have the 500 bonus coins or anything..

EDIT: whoops. guess i was just being impatient. all's well.

Pre ordered from them as well, no dlc code. Got the lamp, but the code wasn't on the receipt nor was I sent an email. That best buy unboxed forum says to give it a full day, but not sure if I should call/email tomorrow before they run out if they even could.

Did anyone else who receive the tarot cards count them? the descirption card inside says there should be 79 cards, 56 from the 4 suits and 22 Major arcana cards. Now im no mathematical genius but thats only 78 cards, so i went n counted my tarot cards, sure enough theres only 78... makes me wonder where the mistake occured ? did they simply miscount themselfs when they made the description card? or is one card simply missing ? or am i the only one who appears to be missing a card lol?

I won't be ordering any video games through Best Buy again. I ordered a number of weeks ago for the PC version (U.S) and for some strange reason, it won't get to me until Oct. 15. It could have come to me early since it wouldn't have been the actual game until it was activated online at midnight but instead, they just didn't send it until last Friday through UPS. I did receive the email with the code for the bonus pack though. It was a bad experience to order from them and I wouldn't advise anyone to order from Best Buy.

I went to Best Buy this afternoon and as I reached the video game section there were three employees standing around talking to each other, and one of them asked me if I was looking for something in particular or needed help. I told them I pre-ordered Dishonored and one of them told me to follow him and wait for him at the register back there and he said that they still had the whale oil lamps without me even mentioning it. He went into the back went into the back and got the game and lamp and then scanned my pre-order receipt and ask me to verify my information that came up on the screen. And then he started scanning the game and lamp and again asked me to verify my email address so that they could email me the bonus code, and then I paid for everything. When I got my receipt I noticed the code was also printed on that too. (And my phone went off with the email before I even got out of the store.) The guy ringing it up was also friendly and seemed really interested in the game and I guess being able to play it after he got off work.

All in all, excellent experience for me. Though I've never really had a problem with Best Buy here (but they were no Circuit City)
