Anyone have any experience with guinea pigs?

I think my guinea pig may be pregnant. Need some one to verify this.

I have a female guinea pig, and one of my roommates recently got a male one. They hated each other at first, but now we can't separate them. We put their cages together.

They're acting odd. We used to take them out of their cage and play with them. They used to even come out of the cage and play whenever they could. But now, whenever someone even gets close, they run and hide together. Right now, we never usually see the female outside her house unless to eat.

Even to the point were the male jumped off the couch to get back in the cage. (scared the crap out of me).

What I'm thinking is that the female might be pregnant and the male is trying to protect her? Something like that?
Is there any way to tell for sure?

It's pretty had to tell if they're pregnant until they're close to term (takes about 2 months I think). I'd say take her to a vet and find out.

Guinea pigs can have a lot of issues with pregnancy (eg, they may die) with a host of "shouldn't do this/that" stuff, including a first-breeding after 7 months or so being extra dangerous, so please get her checked out.

I wouldn't have a male and female together if not neutered etc. unless you're trying to breed them.

I don't really have a choice or not whether they stay together. My "roommate" is my dad's girlfriend and her son is the one with the guinea pig.
My dad and his girlfriend insist to keep them together, I don't have much of a say in it.

I keep trying to tell my dad the risks, but everytime he just says "it'll be fine, don't worry about it".

He makes me angry some times

I don't know anything about their pregnancies but guinea pigs are adorable as [censored]. Seriously. My sister has them and I love them more than anything in the world.

I've talked to my dad. We only going to breed them once, then separate them.

I'm going to keep one and let it get used to human handling at a young age.
My little Lemi still doesn't like to be handled, but she'll lay on your lap and sleep. She just doesn't like being held.

Anyone know anything about what colors the offspring with have? The female is brown/white/black and the male is black with a stripe of white down the back (bit like a skunk).
