Anyone have challenges for me to make Skyrim fun for me agai

Post » Fri Nov 09, 2012 11:38 am

I loved Skyrim when it came out and played it non-stop, I have recently gotten very bored of it over the past few months or so and would like to see if anyone has slight challenges or variations in game play to mix it up a bit.

Play another game for a while.

It's called game fatigue- I tend to last about a month on a game before I get sick of it. Move on, and in a month or two, see if you're still bored with it. This solves 90% of issues when you get bored with a game.

I haven't played skyrim for months, I've been playing many other games like Diablo 3 and Dishonored and Guild Wars 2. I am finally getting around to starting up Skyrim again and would just like some more challenge.

Someone posted on here the other day that a challenge would be to disable autosave, save on wait, and only make about 1 save per gaming session. To me that seems totally pointless but I thought I might mention it if it would make it more of a challenge for you.

thanks for the suggestions so far but I'm looking more for challenges that would limit my character

Ex. A thief who uses pure stealth and does not kill. (A previous character that I played.)

How much have you played? I've easily logged over 400 hours (maybe more) since the game's release and I'm still having a blast. I think you're problem is/was playing non-stop. I try not to get burned out on my favorite games, so I will take an appropriate break from them after a while. For example, a playthrough on Skyrim takes me about a month's time. After I complete it, I take a break from the game for one or two months before I play again, and I make sure my character is different enough from the last one that I'll get to do different things.

Right now I'm playing an Imperial Battlemage. In January or February I expect to move on to a Bosmer Ranger.

362 hours total. The main thing that made me bored of it was that I made an Altmer mage and I completed the MQ, CoW, and the civil war and had visited almost all the dungeons on Skyrim. (This was pre-DLC of course) but I was forced to delete him due to a bug with my game. I did make a pure stealth thief who did not use weapons and became the thieve's guild's master and I really liked the challenge, I am looking for a challenge similar to that.

Make a Derek Zoolander and only be able to turn right.

No pack mule. Only items you can carry have to be immediately equipped and the previous item dropped from your inventory.

No Talking to npc's.

I've often toyed with the idea of making a pure H2H character (hand to hand). Go across Skyrim on a self-promoted boxing match challenging those all around - wether they want to step up to the challenge or not! :P

I think the others above have said it best... you might want to stop trying to do the min/max thing and just go with a variety of playstyles.

Allow me to use myself as an example...

For a couple days I go off on a journey (on foot... no fast travel) from one capital city to another, hitting as many holds, caves, ruins, ect along the way that I can....

When I get to the city, I sell off my junk - and then I spend the next few hours ran-sacking the place.

Then, if there's a home in that city, I go and spend the next couple days re-decorating a few hours a day...

In-between decorating sessions I take breaks and hit a local cave or dungeon... or go on a guard-killing spree.

After I'm done decorating, I start my journey back to Whiterun... (usually re-sets by the time I'm done with the city/area I was at).

Sometimes I break it up by taking a week to learn a new spell/profession...

Sometimes I break it up more by gathering all my garbage, hitch a ride on the cart and literally become a caravan wanderer - going from city to city to trade/sell everything I smithed/looted up.

May I also suggest tossing in some radiant quests in there. When I first did them, I thought "That's it? These are just boring-simple..." but that's when I discovered to use them along with my gameplay method.

Now, I can say "Hey, I got 3 quests in Riften and one for Windhelm, I can first hit riften and knock those out... then journey onto Windhelm.

The radiant quests change from being the focus goal to just being the carrot that sends me in a particular direction for my new journey.

Just two characters? Wow. I've done two Nords, an Argonian, a Khajiit, a Breton, and a Redguard. Like I said though, I don't play Skyrim 24/7.

Dead is dead, master difficulty, not as a breton, orc, altmer or argonian. No enchanting or alchemy.

That's fun :)

It's hard not to become excited about TES when one first begins to play a new installment, and exploration is like an addiction when its new. I grew kinda board with it myself after traveling just about everywhere, and completing the main quest. When that wave of enthusiasm was out of the way, my attitude changed, and I began to take the game more seriously.

For example: the character I play right now, I read books that interest me personally, usually pertaining to lore I am weak in knowledge of. I stickly chop wood, mine and hunt for the first 12 levels, and I'm very cautious of what I go hunting for. No bandits, no spriggons, no bears, no Falmer, no trolls, and no quests during this period. Around level 7-9 I begin to watch out for saber cats. Bears are much stronger, and less buggy, so I stay away from them much longer, plus they are easier to avoid. Above level 12, I slowly test the waters of fighting bandit camps, and Draugr. I develope sneak, smithing, light-armor, marksman, barter, alchemy and one-handed from the very beginning, and this sets me on that path. I'm not a big magicka user. I try to avoid enchanting my weapons as long as possible particularly the bow, but I do develope my enchanting perk along the way for higher level combat. I begin developing block a little depending upon sneak, and bow ineffectiveness, but I do not build the block skill too high because there is a bug in the game pertaining to block and ruins the experience. I don't even consider a dragon priest until level 17, or 18, and i'm selective. Around level 30-35 I go on a Speechcraft developement binge. My gold supply is always growing from the moment I leave Helgan. I don't even think about triggering the main quest, or Dawnguard until my leveling is way up there. What I'm trying to say is I get into character. That's my secret.

you can always go to the skyrim blog character builds... they have differnt levels and the legendary ones have A LOT of challenges and restrictions that can make the game difficult and interesteing.

just go to google and type in skyrim blog character builds.

i had the same problem as you, played so much and got bored a few months ago. just a few days ago i was sitting on my couch when i started to make up a story about how one of the gray manes that i made up got together with a redguard, had a kid, kid was thrown up for adoption, ran away, and became a hunter rouge who can only use iron armor because he ran into a wizard who wanted to practice a bound armor spell but messed up and whenever he puts anything else on he gets sick. He is a redguard with the lightest skin tone and white hair and blue eyes. His mother was a nord, and i think lore wise the offspring has its mothers traits more than their dad, but i like redguards as a whole. I will make him do the stormcloak questline ( 1. because i have never done it, 2. because the gray manes support them). he also carries around a journal detailing what happened and who he is, although he will never reveal it to the gray manes.

that might sound really dumb but it has helped me get back into skyrim.
