Anyone know of a fix for Legate Rikke?

Post » Mon May 21, 2012 3:47 pm

I'm not getting the "reporting for duty" option. I've tried waiting hour by hour, waiting full 24 hours, attacking her various ways, using cooking spit, leaving and coming back, reloading, deleting game data, etc.

I've had nothing but problems for this entire quest line but now I've really hit a brick wall.

Sounds like you've already taken a look at the wiki. Did you try the whole fast travelling to riften and committing a crime thing?

Yep just did that one now. Still nothing. I am getting so absolutely pissed off at this game.

Rather than waiting in-game, try just waiting for a few minutes. Like set the controller down standing near her and go do something else for like 10 minutes. Sometimes she thinks she's stuck trying to finish some other scripted conversation or task.

For Rkke before the Fort Sungard or Fort Greenwall quest: Just reload the savegame and try again. It caan always happen that she does not give you a quest. Or try to wait. Once she finally gave me the new mission after a dragon attacked the camp.^^

If you did the Fort Sungard or Fort Greenwall quest with a work around by attacking either the Jarl of Riften or of Markath from behind things get messed up and I can′t get a new quest either.

Just leave it be for now and wait for a patch. I have played through the ENTIRE questline up to that point for the Imperial Legion three times now, but even with workarounds you won′t get any further than the Fort Sungard/Greenwall quest.
Also, the Fort Sungart/Greenwall quest should give you a trophy when cleared; however, using the "attack Jarl" workaround you won′t get one. Also despite liberating the region, Markath or Riften will still be full of enemy soldiers after the quest.

So after I tried three times I can say that if the quest is bugged for you, you can′t complete it. You can work around the Fort Dunstad quest, but the Fort Sungard/Greenwall quest will mess up your questline when you try a work around.

I had this problem with every quest from the Stormcloak point of view . The fix , at least for me , was to run through the available dialogue , walk out of the tent , then turn around and walk back in to get the " reporting for duty " bit .

As I posted in earlier threads on this topic:

You can get around this. Do the civil war quest until that point, then do 'Season Unending' in the main questline, then finish the main questline. When you return you can talk to Rikke and she will direct you to the second last quest in the civil war before you finally invade Windhelm.

Hey everyone, thank you for responses.

This is actually in Eastmarch. I did in fact have to use the workaround for Greenwall by attacking the Jarl as I could not omplete the quest any other way. Are you saying this completely ruins the quest line permanently?

As far as season unending: which quest in the civil war does it get you to? I'm at the camp in Eastmarch and only have one quest left before windhelm.

Part of me was considering just going back to a save before I started the civil war and hoping for a patch. My concern is, if I continue on the save where I've already started the war, if they patch the bugs, it still won't help because I'm already so far in. What do you guys think? I don't want to waste time doing all these other things on that save for it to be useless civil war wise.

Would reinstalling the game data from another Skyrim disk do anything?

I can say that in my case, the attacking the Jarl work around screwed it up. You can check a few things:
After solving the quest that way, are there still Stormcloaks in Riften? As I understand it, the story about that mission is that you conquer that Fort Greenwalll to get Riften for the Legion. So if there are still Stormcloaks patrolling the streets of Riften eventhough you completed the mission, and Maven Blackbriar does not become Jarl, it is broken.
Secondly, after using that workaround for me it became impossible to report to Legate Rikke for the next mission. Icould go to Tullius, say Greenwall is done and he would send me to Rikke, but she would never give me a new mission, even after a dozen reloads and several times playing the cmpaign from start to that point.

AND: You should get a trophy for Greenwall. But for me using the work around, I did not. So if you don′t have the trophy for taking Greenwall, it is also an error.

So, personally I will not use a savegame after starting the legion questline. I will use my last savegame from before starting it, and wait for a patch to fix it. If you keep playing with the savegame where you attacked the Jarl it might happen that the patch can not fix it anymore. Better play safe and use an older savegame now. At least I can tell you after three times.... once you know what to do you can rush through the missions pretty fast, so when a fix is there you will not take too long to get to where you were.

Reinstalling may help with performance issues, but I don′think it will work for this problem. Also it has nothing to do with what disc you use, it′s all the same. If just your disc was defective it wouldn′t happen to so many people. You′re in New York, I′m in Germany, we can′t have gotten the same bad batch of discs, yet we have the same problems. :)

Thank you for the helpful info. I used a save thats before Greenwall. However, I don't have much confidence that they will fix this anyway.

Forgive me for stating the obvious, but isn't this a GAME BREAKING bug? We cannot progress through the Civil War storyline -- therefore, what is the point in playing the game at all?

I have a Saved game right before Rikke gives me the Quest PRIOR to Fort Greenwall, and that works fine. Take out the wagon on the road... return to her, get the Reporting for Duty option and she sends me to Greenwall. Sometimes I find the men on the hill outside, sometimes they are not there (depending on the dumb luck of the Saved game.) When they are there, it advances to the 100% but there are NEVER any Stormcloak soldiers to fight at the Fort.

I have tried sleeping for 24 hrs before this, I have tried approaching from the north, south, you name it.

Basically, the game is now broken despite my perfectly timed Save right before the quest for the Fort.

Actually, you know what? I just put my copy of Skyrim up on eBay. I'm over it.

Dark Souls will hold me until Amalur which will blow doors off of Skyrim anyway. Next time, Bethesda (Studio of the Year,) please test each platform before rushing to release. Your rep has taken a serious hit with PS3 owners due to this complete fail of a title.

Pretty much same situation as you. I was able to bypass it by sneak attacking the Jarl of Riften while she slept. Somehow tha completed the quest. Unfortunately it doesn't make a difference because I only got a little further in the quest line before having to stop again due to the "reporting for duty bug". And I've done everything to try and make it work, wasting an insane amount of hours trying all the crazy methods posted online to get the dialogue option to appear.

In the end, it was a complete waste. It's frustrating because I barely have enough time to play as it is with work, so using what little time I have constantly reloading, reinstalling, in game waiting, etc., on a "game of the year" made by the "studio of the year" almost makes me think it's all a cruel joke played on the gaming population.

Skyrim...looked good at first. Then I spent half my life waiting for this to load and that to load. Going in, going out, autosaving after just having waited for....ever to go in somwhere. And now I too am stuck with no way to finish Fort Greenwall. I do not want to kill the Jarl in Riften, nor join its Thieves guild. What a bloody bait n' switch. Make the game look good for the first half, everybody raves, more people buy. Then, the complaints start rolling in, but by that time everyone owns the game. So they can get away with dropping the ball (waaay down) on the second half. Well, I want my money back. Shoot me if I ever accidentally buy a Bethesda game again. Can I return this game to Best Buy and get my money back? Seriously, can i? I know of no other product that, if it doesn't completely do what it is suppose to, you can't return it. "Hey! At least half the functions work on your I-phone. Hey! At least one half of your TV works, you got half the movie. Hey, half a fantastic hair cut; you got what you paid for, right?
