Anyone make a monster 10STR build yet?

Post » Sat Dec 18, 2010 8:28 am

As the subject says....who has created a build along the lines of:

10 Strength
? Perception
10 Endurance
? Charisma
? Intelligence
? Agility
? Luck

I was thinking of trying out a character with 10STR, 10END, 1INT and some combination of the rest (prob 1 CHA...since he'll be a big, dumb, ugly oaf). Just wondering if anyone else out there has done the same, and their experience with such a plan. :)

You doing a melee or unarmed character?
If not, then you should really not have 10 STR or 10 END.
I'm going to go for an unarmed character after I'm done with this one.
But that's around 20 hours away.

I was thinking I'd go with a small blade, the Boxing Tape/Gloves, or maybe even the wooden board with nails through it? Whatever I can keep in reasonable condition I suppose.

I would likely be staying away from guns entirely (they're just too darn confusing and complicated for my 1INT monster! ;))

I'm talking about the guy on the left, not the one in the suit at the front. ;)

I have something like this.

S 9
P 2
E 9
C 1
I 9
A 9
L 1

While I have my I at 9 and you asked for 1, I posted because all your other attributes were ? so not shure if you were asking what you should have. I have I 9 so I can have max points to distribute to other weak skills. Actually this gimps the character pretty much since my Explosives and energy weapons is 2. I have S 9 so I can carry as much weight I can.

I never put anything to 10, because from my experiance in Fallout 3, and what I gather in New Vegas, you can increase your attributes by +1 in the game, so why make them to 10 at the begining?

You can raise them to 10 but it is limited and isn't free like in FO3, unless you use intense training.

I take it you don't go to the casinos much? :sadvaultboy:

How are you liking the build? What sort of weapon(s) do you generally use?

Sry for all the questions, just bored at work and dreaming up ideas for when I can play again! :)

Same questions to you...

What sort of weapon(s) do you generally use? Strategy when fighting?

With my main character, I'm generally sneaking around a lot, taking potshots from distance, etc. I'm a bit afraid of running in full force, trying to melee enemies, just eating bullets left and right on the way there....

I've read that there are various conversations that can become quite funny if you have low INT. The lack of skill points could kind of svck but if your'e only going to up 2 or 3 skills that should be fine.

that was my exact strat in FO3, sneaking sniper using vats, but with the changes to vats in new vegas i scrapped that pretty quick and switched to this

i put all my skill points into barter, guns, melee, repair, medicine, science, lockpick

i just use any good guns i can find for range attacks, i turned true iron sites off so i can actually see what i'm shooting at, and melee when something charges me, or when i'm in cramped spaces indoors

i don't use vats at all

so far the characters been a huge success, only thing it's lacking in is speech challenges, but luckily alot of times in dialouge there's an alternative skill or attribute that can win a discussion instead of speech.

just hit level 18, got almost 400 hit points, can carry 350 lbs with strong back perk, most of my choice skills are 75 or close to it, and having no problems at all in combat, havn't tried fighting deathclaws just yet, but havn't had any trouble killing everything else i've come accross

and i can't say enough about having 10 luck, tons of criticals, easy lockpicking and terminal hacking, and slaying the blackjack tables :)

i highly reccomend giving it a try

No need to be sorry for all the questions friend. That is why we are on the forum after all. :)

I am loving this build. It is hard to play. It's not so easy as it may seem, or I just svck at the game LOL. I am role playing abit. Not as hard core role playing as others, but I do. I am playing in hardcoe mode in standard difficulty. The game is fun. As I said, I have to be careful when I level up with my skills, but I want the Pack Rat perk, so I need a level 70 Barter in that. I never bothered with Barter in Oblivion or Fallout 3, but I will have to hear to get that perk. So since I am limiting myself to this, That is bascially at every level up, I have to put 9 points into Barter so I will have 70 by level 8. So that gives me about 5 or 6 points for other skills, so I am not so powerful in the begining of the game at all.

Right now, I am using guns. I love the varmit rifle, reminds me of Ol' Painless. I am hoping there is a version of a unique gun like this in New Vegas. I don't know yet, so no spoilers please. A yes or now would be good enough. :P

I also use the 9mm alot since I don't want to use the weatherd 10mm to much since I don't know if I can repair it or not. I also like using melee weapons as well. The cleaver is great.

I have Luck at 1 so it makes the game harder as well. What I can tell, Luck is a stat boots. I keep reading people say the game is too easy, so I thought this would make the game harder a bit since I don't want to increase the difficulty setting since I hate bullet sponges. In Point Lookout, it was not fun killing the "hicks or hillbillies" because for me bulletsponges in not fun.

Now I haven't been in a casino yet, so I guess I will be in for a big surprise then eh? :shocking: or will it be :banghead: ? :D

There are very few guns that really obstruct view when Iron-sited and you can be much more accurate with the iron sites. You don't see your sway without true iron sites.

I had it off for a while and I was missing shots like crazy despite my targeting reticule being right on things. I turned on iron sites and saw that 'oh, my site is swaying all over'.

yea i still see the sway when using anything scoped, and i typically crouch as much as possible when shooting, havn't had any problem with accuracy

i dunno it's just a pet peeve of mine, i hate iron sites *shrugs*

Thanks for the replies guys, you're giving me some hope that I might be able to punch my way out of Goodsprings at least! ;) I'm a bit concerned I'll be able to find enough weapons to keep repairing my melee, but I'll give it a try at least!

I'm thinking I'll try to use some melee, and carry around a single gun (has to be something.....intelligence/size appropriate though...) for last resort situations.

RE: 1 Luck - I read in another thread from someone talking about how horrible the casino experience was...always losing,...really bad runs of cards.....etc. Turns out he had 1 luck!

I want everyone to absolutely (hate/be terrified of) him, so I can ditch the C :)

yea the beauty of unarmed is not needing repair that much, can't break your hands!

if you wanna keep it true mongrel mode, rely on throwing spears instead of a gun!

great now i have to try this . . .

does agility even effect attack speed with guns?

cause i have thought a lot of mine seem to shoot fairly slow, and erratically sometimes, figured it was the gun itself or the game, maybe it's my 1 AGL

Do not have anything 10 Again do not have any begining skill 10. That one point can go else where for you, because later in the game, you can increase you stats. There is no bobble heads will do this, but there is something else in the game that will do this. And I am not talking about level up perks either.

So do not put your S to 10.
