Anyone managed to help the Companions kill the giant

Post » Tue May 22, 2012 4:29 pm

Just wondering, on your first arrive to the farms round whiterun, the companions a fighting a giant, and come up and berate you for not helping.
Anyone managed to get to them quick enough to land a few blows? It seems pretty scripted to be nearly impossible, them hitting for lots and it always having very little health left. I wouldn't be surpise if even if you did land the killing blow theres no script change cause its not implimented.

I kind of thrashed wildly, not sure if I hit it or not, but in the end they did thank me for my bravery or something like that.

Nice to know it's actually possible! In my case it was all over before I'd even seen what was happening.

I've restarted about 5 times before I found a character that I liked, and every single time I've helped them fight the giant. Of course I play on master so it probably has a lot more hp. Everytime I get there it's at about 50% hp so I help quiet a lot

The fight is long gone before I even get there. Knowing the spot and using handfuls of different characters - always the same.

I finally decided the mod builders they plopped an already dead giant there. Since other people have seen the fight, it must not be pre-dead.

The only other thing I can think of is view distances and older or lower-end video cards.

Possibly: I'm just playing on whatever's the normal setting. I must admit I didn't attempt to redo that part of the game, just thought "whatevs" and trotted off to the much more interesting-looking city nearby; had I reloaded and specifically gone looking for the fight, maybe it would've had a different outcome... or maybe not, based on what TrexterZiam says. And I'm certainly not putting it up to "master" difficulty to find out!

I did, I kept hitting him and he never hit me back, he was too busy hitting the companions, and they said I was a skilled warrior for helping.

I tired to lob some fireballs at him, but by the time one hit he was already falling over dead. I made up for it by nuking 3 giant camps a few lvls later after I collected enough magicka potions and arrows >_>

Thanks for the tips, had a save file near by it, jacked it up to master, ran towards it (not particularly quickly with low stamina) I had nearly full health, got a good number of swings in gained 3/4 levels in one handed and was told "You handle yourself well, you'd make a good shield-brother" although after that she seems no more keen on me joining them so far. It didn't get a single swing at me either. Would be nice though if your difficulty didn't really limit that event, making it seem as scripted as it did.
