Anyone use 2H and sword n board with the same character?

I was planning a sort of ultimate warrior type build, who would be skilled in all weapon types. Anyone else try this?

I did on my Nord Master-At-Arms type character. Pretty fun, but you'll feel like you are spreading yourself very thin for a long time.

Yes, for most of my characters.

From a rp perspective, it makes a good build; From a fighting perspective it gives you flexibility.

The downside is that you may want to watch how your skills progress, it's very easy to let one increase at the cost of the others, which mean you may find that if you get into the higher levels some skills take forever to increase, while the one that you have used the most isn't contributing to your overall level increases.

The advantages though are pretty good, especially if you add in a bit of archery for ranged use. The Block skill does work well with both 1H and 2H...if you notice, the Block skill tree has 'defensive' perks on the left, and 'offensive' perks on the right. The left side perks pretty much apply to shields, whereas the right side perks can apply to both shield and 2H weapons, and the bash-stagger effect and power-bash damage/stagger really work well with a weapon like a battleaxe, sitting between the 'speed' of a greatsword, and the pounding ability of the hammers.

In summary, a fun build, with challenges in its' own right.

I actually just did this on my current one.

Simply because I felt that as
Spoiler
Harbinger of the Companions
, I should be able to efficiently use all forms of weapons expected of a warrior.

I played made an Orc character (my first Orc ever in TES) who was big into smithing and crafted himself an entire suit of Orcish, including a two-handed axe as well as a one-handed sword and shield. He'd switch between those two (and occasionally an Orcish bow) depending on the situation. Eventually he also found a wife (also Orcish, and the first and only time I've married in Skyrim), and I crafted her a set of matching gear though I think I just gave her a sword and shield. It was pretty cool being an Orcish Bonnie and Clyde all decked out.

Unfortunately after visiting the four Orcish strongholds and completing their quests, I didn't feel like there was too much left to do on that character so I eventually stopped playing him. Though this Orc also had the distinction of being the only character that's gotten a killcam when killing a dragon. He hopped on top of that scaly Cliffracer and smashed his two handed axe into the dragon's skull!

For someone I really didn't play that long, he's one of the characters I remember the fondest...maybe I'll remake him some day!

No....I use only one "style" of weaponry (1h, 2h, archery) per character anymore. I don't like spreading my combat skills that thin

Check this link out,

The third build I believe is a "weapon master" build I play.

Super fun as an Orc.

Yes, I've done this with Tiberius, my Imperial. He does 2H, his specialty, but also sword & board, dual wield swords, and 1H/destruction for long range. Only weapon he can't handle is a bow.

You sir, have just made me reconsider my plan with this awesome build suggestion. I don't know whether to thank you or scold you for that.

How many points would you recommend putting into magicka with this build? I would choose a Nord, even though an Altmer would give me 50 extra magicka. Do you find destruction useful after level 50?

I suggest using stamina and magica with loads of health potions untill level 40 then just health, it's well balanced and with stamina you will run a lot at the earlier levels trust me, and magica for your zombie companions.

Ha ha thanks, if I ever get THAT bored, I'll look it up. I think I'd make a better Watson, though.

I do have a Nord weapon master who is perked out in both one and two handed as well as destruction, and he uses a shield too.
