You are right about what everyone said, its pretty cruel. Im sure Beths working their tails off trying to fix this problem. You dont just sell a messed up game (over 7 mil) and dont listen to the customers. I emailed Beth this week, and they replied within a day. Thats pretty darn good for all the complaints they need to read about. They read my message, and offered solutions. They even stated that a NEW PATCH is coming out next week. In my email, i specifically spoke about the lag/framerate issues that we are all angry about, although I didn't rant about it. And they replied civilly. The following is the reply to my email:
We are sorry to hear about the inconvenience you are encountering with your game. Your issue may be resolved if you clear your game cache on your PS3.
1. Problems may arise if you have been playing the game for an extended period of time. Let the system cool down, then try running the game.
2. Please make sure that you have the most recent update for your PS3 console.
3. Remove the game data from the Playstation 3 Hard Drive. Files in the Game Data Utility folder, are saved settings for a game (i.e., controller preferences, brightness settings, etc.). These steps will NOT delete your save games. To remove a game data file from the PLAYSTATION 3:
a. In the XMB home menu, go to (Game) > [Game Data Utility].
Important: Make sure you select [Game Data Utility]. Do NOT select [Saved Data Utility], as this will delete all of your saved games files.
b. Highlight the game data utility file (i.e., name of a particular game you have been playing) you wish to delete.
c. Press the button and select [Delete].
d. Highlight "Yes" and press the button to confirm the deletion.
e. A message indicating the file is being deleted will appear.
f. A "Delete completed." message will appear once the file has been successfully deleted.
4. Try running it from another console. If the game works properly on another system, you may want to contact Sony to find out more about getting your PlayStation 3 serviced. If the game fails to run on multiple consoles, contact our Technical Support representatives for further assistance.
Thank you for your time and patience!
Best Regards,
Ivan S.
PS. a new patch will come the week after thanksgiving.
For Beth to even reply to every one of THOUSANDS of similar emails is astonishing. They make the best, biggest, and longest games in the world. They knew that WE wanted the game to come out after years of waiting (i sure as heck did) and they PROMISED a release of 11/11/11. They stuck to their promise, and even if they did know about the problem before the release, they've been working on new patches ever since. It might not be as simple of a fix as so many assume it to be. They may have looked at the coding immediately after complaints, started working on it, but it turned out to be something huge. Bethesda does a great job at what they do. But with all great things, it has its faults. All these people are doing now is focusing on the faults, and not the good. Sure the good is not as easy to see when something is blocking that way, but Im sure Bethesda is working on removing that barrier. Their games are extremely vast, not some small 8 bit side scroll game. Their games take the longest to make, and the most time. People devote many hours so we can enjoy ourselves. With all work there are accidents, and when theres an accident, you work to make up for it. Beth is surely working on that right now, its called a job for a reason. They released many patches for Oblivion, and in Skyrim, there are many more dungeons, the graphics are much better, and the physics are astounding. This game is using the most modern of technology, unlike some games who stick with the same game engine, which of course makes almost no faults with the game, for they are all the same. Skyrim is using a brand new engine, so of course there will be bugs, but of course those bugs will also be fixed. The only reason they are using this new engine is for a better game, for our enjoyment. Of course they want to make money too, but who doesn't. But if we don't enjoy the game, the game gets bad ratings, and it doesn't sell anymore. Then they WONT make money, and everyone will be miserable. They could have used the old stuff, then there would be no more bugs or anything, but do you really just want to spend 60 bucks on another version on Oblivion when you can go to gamestop and get it for 30? No obviously. And really, so many of you are complaining that they shouldn't have released a "broken" game (and just because it has some lag, its not broken. I have it too, im at 8.5 mb.) but would you really want to wait another 3 weeks for this? Im sure that when everyone heard about Skyrims release, you were ecstatic. I couldn't wait another minute. I preordered it in DECEMBER. If they would have postponed the release, i would have been infuriated, as everyone else would have been too. So what could Beth have done? They were stuck in a corner. Either way fans would have complained. Do they really deserve the treatment they are receiving from their so-called "fans?" (Who are threatening to never buy a Beth game again, but Im sure that when the next ES or FO comes out, theyll be the first in line.) They delivered a game. A game that caught our attention. A game that delivered what we wanted. And just because there is one fault we have to reply with extreme anger? Is that even fair? I don't think so. I think that we should let Beth do what they do best, make games, and then fix them.
