Not sure if Skyrim would be as effective at it as CoD or something along those lines, but yeah, I knew that. My brother had lazy eye, and the optometrist suggested games like FPSs to improve his tracking.

Wait, skyrim section? Really?

Annyhoo, the article is speking of a specific born-with problem, I doubt my sight will get better from playing shooter games, quite the opposite.

This explains why I have 20/20 vision even though I play on the computer a lot. Now I can officially go back to my opticians and ask them to prescribe a CoD shoot-out with me as corrective eyesight treatment.

This means that a lot of people's eyesight gets better whilst they're having fun. Plus, I get XP from playing against short-sighted people. Best of both words ;)

I can imagine it would increase perceptiveness, but not eyesight. Eyesight tends not to go well with video screens because of the fact that they are, generally put, a giant lightbulb. you are not supposed to stare into a lightbulb. It can increase perceptiveness because you are looking at everything at once and allows for hypersensitivity to motion in the non-peripheral areas of your eyesight, depending if you do multi-screens (like a boss) or not. If you use multi-screen gameplay, then that changes everything.

If you want to improve something, better go out for a walk.

My shortsightedness has never dampened my skill with a bow or rifle, though it does mean I need glasses to watch TV.

I thought they only improved eye-coordination, I doubt your eyesight improves.

I disagree, from personal experience, my eyesight is only getting worse and I tend to only play 1st person games. They have to have some sort of disclaimer: Results not typical.

I was told by my optometrist that what you do day to day has no effect on your eyesight. Sure, if you strain your eye muscles constantly, or if you're in an environment that physically stresses your eye in some way, your eyesight will suffer. But she mentioned a slew of things that would not influence your eyesight if you bothered to rest your eyes occasionally, and video gaming/PC screen-staring was one of them (provided you sit in a well-lit room; the contrast between light and dark can overly tire your eyes).

I don't have cataracts, so I can't speak to medical miracles, but what I notice is that if I play videogames for a long period over weeks (or any long-term PC/TV use), what happens is my eyeballs get stiff from very little movement. You feel like you're "looking around" a lot when playing a game, but unless your monitor is 100 feet wide, most of the time your eyeballs aren't moving too much in their sockets. So, at least for me, they get fatigued from lack of eye muscle exercise, or something. I dunno.

But I don't think my vision has become any worse or better since computers/games became a common household item in our house. I've been near-sighted since I was 12y.o, and my prescription hasn't changed for 20 years. Just occasional eye fatigue that's cured by going outside and looking at real 3D vistas/objects & lighting for a while. ;)
