[req]Archers that miss

Post » Thu May 24, 2012 9:18 pm

I am driven mad about how flawlessly accurate all the archers in skyrim are. they NEVER miss a target.

im using a mod that makes arrows 50% faster which only emphasizes this issue.
archers always hit the human player 100% of the time in plain sight and was wondering if anyone knows of an existing mod that makes the AI not a perfect aim WITHOUT removing the sticky aim of the player.

im not that good of a shot with a controller (yes. im using the xbox controller) so i rely a little bit on the sticky aim to get hits, but i want the remove the AIs inability to miss.

can anyone remedy this phenomenon?

It's not a remedy per se but use the shout "become ethereal" and close in on the archers. I also find that fighting them with some cover next to me is the best. It's true though, that taking them on in the open is quite suicidal.

Deviation from the crosshair by the skill you have would be good.

Yes I agree, this is quite an immersion breaker regardless of how mechanically sound within the Skyrim combat system it may be. Archers should have a miss chance; maybe arrow damage should increase proportionately to compensate & maintain current balance?

its probably your mod i hardly get hit unless unaware, side steping back and forth as you close ground is pretty much garanteed miss. im sure u know what u want tho.

I can stand in one place and they miss me all the time.

But I use my mod (Duke Patrick's Heavy Weapons Combat Mod) that removes the magnetism.

http://www.gamesas.com/topic/1355654-relz-duke-patricks-heavy-weapons-combat-mod/

Once SKSE has the commands I need I will port some of the features form my my Oblivion Combat Archery mod for Skyrim that handles archery and NPC missing per skill, movement (like running) and other factors will be part of that.

With out any way to get the arrows reference I would say it is not possible at this time to have what you want without the no-magnesium part of my combat mod.

Funny thing is that they NPC do have hardcode to miss shots (spread of fire) but then after doing that they force the arrow back on target with the magnetism "junk".

Seriously. I get missed all the time even if Im pretty stationary, Especially at long ranges. I'm kind of surprized when I get hit at really long range.

You can't be serious. Do you use any mods that affect this? Archers miss more often than they hit something. I even think PISE (which I use) slightly increases their aiming abilities and still they miss most of the time. Even when I'm quite close they often miss, over long(er) distances I can just stand there and 9 out of 10 shots will miss me.

I've played this game for more than 100 hours now and if archers hit you all the time then it has to be a mod you're using. In the vanilla game they miss a lot, even too often for my taste.

Yeah that mod is your problem, faster arrows are much harder to dodge. I"m also guessing you are a melee fighter and are always closing in on the archers, because I play as an archer and try to keep my distance and enemy archers miss me constantly. (using cover and having a companion to distract them are really useful tactics, but even without those zig-zagging left and right can help you dodge quite a few of them if you're far enough away. If you have eagle eye and quick shot you can also sprint to dodge their shots and fire off quick arrows back at them when they're nocking another arrow)

Either use Duke's mod to get rid of the arrow "magnetism" or accept that archers are usually gonna hit you at close range.

the only mod i have is the faster arrows. i agree with Duke that archers do not miss since arrows SNAP to the player.
thing is - if archers miss me it's only because i stood really close to an object that obscured my center of body (and arrows magnet to center of body) OR they shot straight at me but i moved WHILE the arrow was moving. since im using a mod that makes arrows 50% faster it meants that i dont have time to move from the arrow's path by the time it hits me.

this MIGHT also mean that arrows that move faster are less effected by gravity compared to vanilla arrows, which might be the reason the AI miss more in vanilla game. but the buttom line is - the AI does aim bad ever. it aims dead on. it misses due to side effects of the situation. not due to bad aiming.

so, spooky - what can i do to disable magnetism? i know it means i will not have auto aim myself, which is a shame since i cant aim well with my controller, but i guess i would give this method a shot.... (poor pun intended).
