Archery problem... possible bug?

Post » Tue Jun 12, 2012 6:14 am

Hi there,
Sorry if this has already been asked but I did Google it and none of my friends know...

I have an issue whereby whenever I go to shoot an arrow it only flies about 3m, like I'm out of Stamina (which I'm not). And it happens when I've held the arrow nocked for way more than 10 seconds (yes I get that if you draw and release within a couple of seconds that's what happens; I played Oblivion to death).
The weird thing is, though, that it hasn't always been like that; I have successfully fired arrows before - so I don't get what's wrong or what I'm doing wrong... My character doesn't have any diseases that might impair my Archery skill.

Is this a bug, perhaps?
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks.

Are you sneaking when you have this problem? I've run into a lot of terrain issues where if you're crouched, and even though it looks like your shot should be able to clear any ground obstacles, the game engine decides differently. The hitbox around terrain features is larger than you would imagine, and can really mess up your shooting sometimes.

Thanks but pretty sure I haven't been... Tried shooting upwards at a dragon in grassland outside Whiterun, same thing happened. And it has occurred lots of times, so statistically there would definitely be attempts made when not crouching. And having said that, I know I've killed enemies with arrows while hidden.

Yea it happened to me like 10 or 15 times in a row...the arrow would go a total of like 5 feet..even if I drew my bow fully, it eventually fixes itself though. So no worries

Oh okay... Great to hear I'm not the only one and that it will get better. Probably I need to find some straw archery butts to practice on.
Thank you :3

you probably not draw the arrow at full length
or could be your controller/button, sent a wrong signal as like to release the notch when it's not fully draw

I've the same problem. Pretty annoying.... *almost overdraw bow, take a deep breath, hold your breath, FIRE!!!!....arrow falls down 5 feet infront of you and every bad guy in the area goes "What was that?" and come searching were the arrow landed....

a few times when the arrow fell down just in front of me I got hit detection at the same time, like i would've shot two arrows at the same time, one longshot and one "shortshot"....

I've played archers for all of my 415 hours logged and I've never had that happen :/. And you don't need stamina to draw the bow so I don't know why you mentioned that (you only need it to use the zoom perk). Have you tried restarting Skyrim?

I've had this happen to me a couple of times, however it only lasted for one or two shots then it corrected itself.
You could try dropping your bow then picking it back up,I don't know if that will work or not,it's just a thought.
