my archery skill has dropped & shows as Red

Post » Sat Jun 09, 2012 2:42 am

My first character has 44 archery. After clearing out the dead solitude necromancer queen, it has dropped to 15 & the number is Red.

I havent seen any indicators ingame that im suffering from a disease or spell, am i suffering a bug or is this a game feature that i can fix ?

The next time your archery skill levels up it will return to normal, I had the same thing happen to me.

That would be great - i had a dragon show up it was a battle only being able to damadge him once he landed.

Yeah, after noticing how pathetic my shots were, i immediatly looked for some kind of ingame message - seeing nothing i ran off to temple first thing to see if that would fix it.

This is a frequent bug, happened to me with both one-handed and archery. I have no idea why it occurs (it certainly has nothing to do with disease) and I am not sure it actually affects game play. The first time I noticed it was when i went to level up, the base stat showed 20 in red but the perk tree said that my level was 30-something and let me take a perk at that level. Further I hadn't noticed my combat performance had tailed off. So I think it might be a cosmetic thing with the skills display.

Anyway, as said above, once the affected skill goes up, the display returns to normal. So, if you think your abilities are affected, a quick trip to a trainer will resolve the issue.

It's probably Rockjoint. You can get it from fighting wolves and bears. Nords get it all the time. Try hitting a shrine or taking a potion of cure disease.

"It's probably Rockjoint"

If the problem were caused by a disease then it would show up in active effects. That it doesn't and cures/blessings don't solve the problem suggests that it had nothing to do with becoming infected. Furthermore Rockjoint drops melee weapons by 25%, so a) it should have no affect on archery skill, and B) the numbers don't stack up (reducing a skill of 44 by 25% would not take it back to 15).

like 132546 have said before me, it's a bug and will disappear when you level archery. Never happened to me when my archery has been sitting at 100 and i can only assume the game would be ruined if that happened.

Go to a trainer and "ask" him to train you. Once the window appears decline training - rectifying the problem and saving you coin.

Yeah im hoping it willl just sort itself out once i level my archery. I would have done that ASAP to see if it was a fix but i had already trained 5 times for my current level, , so im finding & shooting the low flying Hawks that i can actually reach to slowly pump it up.

thx for the replies all ~
