Simple question seeks simple answer.

No. I'll take the range of a bow any day over the four-point difference in damage gained by the crossbow. :D

I'm old fashion.

I just can't get the feel of crossbow.

Nothin beats drawing an arrow back and aiming.

Oh please, not this again. :x

As long as this one is kept civilized and logical, I'm okay with this thread, but:

That 4 points increases with skill level, doubles with perks and multiplies even more with sneak attacks. A 4 point base damage quickly becomes a very large gap.

Yes it's better, haven't touched a regular bow since.

Depends on gameplay. I use it for insta kill,if failed go in with magic and swords.

For an assassin it's the best weapon there is.

For the long range fighter it's the worst do to the speed of reload.

I'll still take the weapon where the limit of my range is the draw distance of the platform that I'm playing on. Since I'm one-shotting damn near everything already, the extra damage is a moot point to me.

I fully understand all of the points why people would prefer the crossbow to a regular bow, for my personal playing style, a regular bow is quite enough for me. :D

Yea, it's up to playstyle.

The crossbow feels too much like a gun too me, lift shot.

I like, lifting, drawing arrow back, eagle eye, release bow. It feels nicer too me.

You can make a hunting bow to OP in this game, any weapon really.... So doesn't even really matter about starting weapon stats. Unless you don't use smithing or enchanting on any charaters.

Right now my average crossbow does the same damage as my Daedric bow.

The crossbow is nice and does look really cool when holstered on your character's back, but I just love the regular bow to much to switch it up.

On one of my chars, I never touched a normal bow, and when Dawnguard came out, that was his main weapon. Something about it makes it seem that much more...deadly

Proper bow for silence, speed and distance.
Crossbow for close range hard hit.
Crossbow looks good on your back, but the quiver :ooo: !! Hovering miles from your body, not a good look  !!

So how long is the effective range of a crossbow then?

Do the special bolts you get add anything?

I think it depends on playstyle. Bows are much faster and the higher end bows with high end arrows have a higher displayed damage. For stealth and warrior type characters I believe Crossbows are superior though.

Only negative the crossbows have is that it isn't as fast as a bow.

It excluding that is entirely superior.

As has been mentioned the negative aspect of the crossbow is supposed to be the longer reload time. However the difference in reload time seems so minimal that I cant see a dowside to crossbows and so have no reason to carry a bow. I would prefer it if crossbows did even more damage but had a much longer reload time.
