Are 1 Handed swords no dual wield viable?

Post » Fri May 11, 2012 12:25 am

The way I am playing my character for RP purposes is making him an adventurer, just some one that explores and not really proficient in combat, will one handed combat no dual wield still be viable, itll be backed up with archery and alchemy.

it will be viable. You can block where as a dual weilder cannot. And your attacks will be faster than a 2 handed weapon user. You will not gain an advantage to those who also use a shield. I think they nearly expect you to either use a shield or magic in the other hand.

Would a dagger be better for an adventurer? this was mostly for RP purposes and using a redguard, I was gonna use an axe.

Gonna use a shield? Yes it's "viable" on its own, it'll just be harder to kill things, obviously. I don't see how this makes any sense RP wise, but whatever floats your boat.

No shield, I just want to be an explorer, not some one efficient in combat,

Probably because you aren't psychic and can't read his mind? Leave the feller alone.

1 handed is viable. You kill slower and power attacks are weaker, but if you level up blocking you'll be able to interrupt more and knock down enemies

Without shield, I don't think it's viable because, if just sword + nothing WAS viable, then sword + shield would be overpowered.

I see. The only reason I Dont want to dual wield or use a shield is because I wanna stay away from being a fighter as much as possible. Sounds dumb yes and this no where near resembles a thief or assassin .

I've never tired this but is there any significant tactical advantage when simply using your fist as your offhand weapon, can punches stagger foes or anything?

Yes it's completely viable, just think like your "adventurer" idea would and approach combat as tactically and tricky as possible to tilt the odds in your favor.

I would say use a sword over a dagger because while your character may not be a great fighter, they could still have a sword. Also every combat option in this game is viable, as long as you do it right. Also nice to hear about another redguard.

Redguards are a great race and lore wise very interesting and fit well with adventuring into to skyrim.

Agreed I kept picturing Cyrus from the Elder Scrolls Adventure: Redguard.

I'm playing in a similar way to you. I'm playing as myself in a way. Exploring, dual wielding and using magic, killing people only if they attack me. I tend to act in these games like I would in real life.
