Are summoned weapons usable in mounted combat in DG?

Post » Sat Nov 17, 2012 12:29 pm

Hello! My character is using summoned weapons, and that makes most fun in gameplay for me. I probably want to buy Dawnguard, but if it is stilll impossible to use mounted weapons on horses, I wont to do it because I dont want to get frustrated. COuld anyone tell me please if summoning weapons spells are usable on horse in Dawnguard?

I don't believe it's possible to cast spells on horseback, and bound weapons require casting a spell. Since you automatically sheathe your weapons when you mount, also, you can't summon your weapon and then get on a horse.

So no. While I haven't actually tried it yet, I think it will be impossible to use bound weapons while riding a horse.

I never actually thought about bound weapons not being usable while mounted. My newest character waiting for DG is a level 25 Breton that specializes in Conjuration (spec. bound weapons), so he will hoof it like all my other ones. To be honest the mounted combat is of little importance to me for the most part. I never truly saw the point of mounts since there's fast travel. However, I can see folks desiring mounted combat for various reasons.

No, and it's fking stupid. I can understand certain spells because they do AOE damage, but Conjuration and Alteration spells should be allowed.

Nope tried it, just because and it don't work, it's still a spell. my character "borrowed" a horse to find out as he doesn't ride anyway.

it might be possable if you release the spell just before mounting, it always takes a while before the weapon appears.
and its also possable to be invisable while on the horse this way so maybe it also works with bound weapons

I believe the main purpose for horses is to climb slopes that are normally impossible (or at least difficult) for your character to climb on foot, thus enabling a more direct route to some places for those who either don't use fast-travel, or haven't discovered the place they're traveling to yet.

On the topic of bound weapons on horseback: I've now tried this, and it is indeed not possible.

You can't cast from horseback and this is classic RPG trope, too much jostling to get words/gestures correct. Makes perfect sense and I do agree with it. Answer... equip a staff. What, you're a mage and you don't have one? Shame on you.

Agreed. Also staffs don't work in mounted combat.

Guess you mage types have to run then. :) Hehe. Seriously, not a real biggie since the horse combat made horse control a bit wonky and horse combat's not really even going to be huge unless you're battling other mounted enemies. Or centaurs (there's something I'd love to see in a DLC). Seriously, do what Gandalf did, whip out the sword. ;)
