I find them really good. Sure they have a reload time but with the perk its really not that bad and having a reload time like that is good for the RP. I find the Crossbows badass.
I don't know what people expect its a different weapon with a different function, I for one am glad that they are different its great for roleplaying versatility and it gave us back one of the missing options that was lost after Morrowind. I am glad it has a different feel than the regular bow and arrow.
Crossbow wasnt something I cared about before the DLC, and it took a while before I even bothered to use it, but I have come to prefer it over my bow by a wide margin.
i love them, glad to see the base one we get is 14 damage higher than my glass bow (w/all perks and archery 85), but im really hoping there arent just two skins.. hoping we can craft elven glass or even daedric.
right after you arrive at fort dawnguard a vigilant is standing basically saying save us, and there is one at the beginning(dont remember his name) but he tells you of how he and his partner from the vigil left and became dawnguards
I really like them against multiple opponents in combo with stealth and open melee. They're a great 1 shot power-open for mass melee combat, they're great at close range (the melee smack to the jaw followed by a point blank bolt in the chest). They're awesome to whip out for a single shot at some straggler keeping himself at range and then switch back to melee.
Next thing I'm testing is if they can be assigned as the "bow" for kinect, I find myself switching between crossbow and melee during certain circumstances more often than I did with the bow.
The weapon itself feels satisfying to use, the bolts release and smack home with a nice feeling of force. It's also a very satisfying assassination weapon.
You can assign crossbows as "crossbow". Kinect makes it very handy
