are there any mods that remove dragons

Post » Fri Dec 16, 2011 11:42 am

they are imho the worst part of the game, at best they are nuisance. just modding in a small shop where you could buy dragon parts for crafting and souls for the shouts would do.

obviously assuming bethesda create a mod which patches the game without breaking it entirely the the point of unplayability of course

hmm Bethesda don't crete mods. The community does.

Open a request thread on the mods forum and maybe someone can create this mod when the Creation Kit comes out next month.

Or just never talk to the Whiterun Jarl and dragons will never show up.

you should be able to use console commands.

use 'GetGlobalValue DragonsReturned' to see whether or not random dragon attacks will take place

then, play with the command:

set to

to see if you can set the value to zero so they don't return anymore.

as always, make a save before using any console commands.

Dragons - just like giant cliffracers... i think not speaking with the jarl of whiterun is the best solution. Otherwise i think there will be tons of mods comming in january, after the ck is released.... assuming you play on pc. I like the dragons and how they are implemented.

Some End Game-related spoiler:

Spoiler
One of the mods I'll do for myself (And probably release if it has not already been done) is one that removes wandering dragons after the Main Quest is finished. (And keep only those located at the Dragon Lairs) I simply want to be able to wander around without the threat of the flying beasts coming around.

The following console command should do the trick:

set MQ106TurnOffRandomDragons to 1

I haven't tried it out myself. For more information look at the comments of this mod:

EDIT: This only gets rid of the randomly generated Dragons. The named ones, which are essential parts of the story are not removed (this would break some quests anyway).

Unfortunately this game has trivialized Dragons and they just become a nuisance, if I exit a dungeon and hear that Dragon Roar high in the sky my immediate reaction is "Dammit!"

Dragons shouldn't be as annoying as mosquitoes or cliff racers.

I think the Dragons are awesome. They look great, they act great and every fight is epic (not epic hard epic, just epic epic).
I still enjoy every encounter with them. I'm only about 150 hours into the game yet, so lots to go, but for now, they are still
awesome. Must svck to think they svck since the whole game is about them in the first place. I have to agree with whoever
it was that said, play another game. To come and complain that a game about Dragons, has Dragons, is ludicrous, at best.

Those are indeed the ones I wanted to be gone after the main quest. I'll try it out, thanks!

I also think they are awesome. I love fighting them too. (And I must admit, they are great target practice for Archery :P ), but after finishing the main quest,
Spoiler
I was expecting to have them gone forever. Or at least not aggressive.
I want to explore the world without the constant thought that a dragon may popped-in to say hello. Plus, I don't use the bones to craft armor and I don't need Dragon Souls anymore... so for me the dragons do not have a use anymore.

Considering his request was posted in the Mods forums where people mod their own game, it is not ludicrous at all. The joy of modding a single player game is configuring it the way you like to play it without worrying about others' preferences.
If he was asking it in Skyrim General forums because he was on console, that would have been a different world.

No one ever said that you can't mod your own game any way you want. That including, but not being restricted to, adding a metric [censored]eton of Anime, MLP, super bazonga boobies or whatever stuff you happen to fancy, and on top of that, with or without Dragons. Knock yourself out to your little hearts desire - and yes of course this can, and should be done, without worrying too much about what other people think about it. However, if you go online and and post about it in public forums, you might have to expect that some people who are of a different opinion than yours as far as what should, and should not be modded in, might just voice their opinion too. I am a firm believer in that they have as much right to do so, as whatever OP has voicing their opinion in the first place. It can be seen as just exchanging different points of view, and guess what my friend - this can be done without them immediately getting jumped by the "everyone has the right to mod their game anyway they want", squad. I see this happen all the time. This reoccurring phenomena is yet another thing that, I, in my very own and most entitled opinion, view as, ludicrous. Someone comments on something about someone else choice of modding, and it immediately gets thrown in their face that anyone can do whatever they want in their game. Well, isn't that a bloody given in the first place that they can do whatever they want in a single player game? Was that even ever in question? What is the point of constantly pointing this out? If you have something to say and you want to say it in public, but you can not stand that someone else might have a different opinion. Then maybe, just maybe, you shouldn't bother saying anything in the first place. How about that? Sounds like a plan, good one, yes? Sheesh..."you people"... *pant-pant-pant* See what you did. Too early for this and I not even had breakfast yet!

Agree with this.

It's like me playing Batman Arkham Asylum, and modding out Batman, or complaining that I can't.... huh?

And in turn, people who post to public mod-request threads that the request is dumb should expect to be told to take a hike. It cuts both ways!

Exactly. This is not the Skyrim General forum. This is a thread requesting a mod, not a thread soliciting opinions.

I think I would enjoy a mod that does not remove dragons, but takes away the random dragon encounters. There are plenty of locations where dragons are supposed to appear (marked by the dragon symbol on the map), and those are fine, just like all the dragons in the main story are fine.
But really, all the random dragons do get annoying after a while.

I say, leave in all the named dragons and the dragons that appear in their own dragon symbol locations, but remove the others. That way we can still have awesome dragon fights once in a while, but they don't become the cliff racers of Skyrim.

I like Dragons, but in every story a Dragon isn't so trivialized that you find it an annoyance.
The Dragons in this story are extremely annoying, I had about 7 of them cluttering up the entrance to the Mage Guild because they seem to appear every time I exit the place.
I even had one stuck on the roof for a while....

Yup. With the option to have the random dragons be disabled after the main quest or at any time. (And as such, having it possible to toggle them back should one feel the need to slay a few. :) )
If the random dragons are indeed affected by a simple variable that can turn them on and off, that'll be a first-day CK mod release for me.
